In recent weeks, atleast 41 wild mustangs were sold by the government and then,within days, resold to an Illinois slaughterhouse. We cannot let this continue.
TAKE ACTION TO HELP SAVE THESE ANIMALS (Link)
Congresswill be considering the Rahall-Whitfield amendment toensure that tax dollars are never used for sales of wild horsesthat could lead to their slaughter. This week, when this amendment isbeing considered, we must reach every single member of theU.S. House of Representatives and secure their votes for theRahall-Whitfield amendment.
1. Take action. Contact your U.S. Representativeand urge him or her to vote YES on the Rahall-Whitfield amendment.
2. Make a call. This amendment is going up for a votethis Thursday, May 19th. Please take a moment tomake a short phone call urging your Representative to vote yeson the Rahall-Whitfield amendment. Call the Capitol Switchboard at: 202-224-3121 and ask to speak to yourrepresentative.
3. Spread the word.

I'm in full agreement. I sent an e-mail and made a call yesterday. The call was a little scary for me, since I've never made a political call before, but me being uncomfortable is worth saving animals' lives.
E-mail is important, but calling is even more important. If you don't know your representative's name, look it up on the site LauraTiara linked! Just call the switchboard, ask to be directed to your congressman's office, and leave a message with whoever answers - say your name and your city and state, say that you would like your congressman to please vote YES on the Rahall-Whitfield Interior Appropriations Amendment, and thank them. That's all, five minutes total, and it will make a BIG difference!

Americans were outraged last December when a secret rider in a budget bill gutted the federal protections afforded to wild horses for 34 years, an action that allowed "killer buyers" last month to ship 41 mustangs to an Illinois slaughterhouse, which quickly killed these majestic animals so they could be served up on dinner plates in Europe and Asia.
U.S. Representatives Nick Rahall (D-WV), Ed Whitfield (R-KY), John Sweeney (R-NY), and John Spratt (D-SC) have led the charge to end horse slaughter. Tonight, the people's House of Representatives acted on the will of its constituents."
Congressional offices told us they were flooded with phone calls and emails all week asking them to support the Rahall-Whitfield Amendment to the Interior Appropriations Bill, and I can assure you that your participation carried the day in this decisive victory for horses. If your Representative voted "Aye," please thank him or her for protecting wild horses, and if your Representative voted "No," please let him or her know how disappointed you are.
