Thats awful! I've never seen that before, it's usually goldfish. I'm glad your bunny has such a happy home! I would sign, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't count coming from a Canadian.

I've seen rabbit giveaways too, but not in several years.

What next? Kittens?

No, silly. Kittens are "off-limits." No omnivore could eeeevveerrrr get a kitten as a *gasp* PRIZE!

No! The poor kittens! They're so cuuuute! *takes another bite out of hamburger*

Not surprising in the least. The person I got Luna and Sol, the rescued chickens, from was going to give them to a county fair where they'd be put in a pen with other small animals like rabbits and piglets, so that little kids could go in and chase the animals and if they caught one they could keep it. The reason why they were giving them up? Cause they didn't lay eggs anymore. And they were rescued from somewhere by an organization before going to this person. That was one of the worst parts about it to me, these poor chickens were rescued from somewhere horrible (Sol still walks funny, that walk chickens have when they've spent their life on a cage and don't know how to walk, she still has that sometimes), and wound up somewhere that they clearly were not cared about beyond being egg vending machines.

People just make me sick.

Rabbits are treated like second-class pets because they're still used agriculturally as sources of meat. I don't think America will ever truly respect a species they're still slaughtering and eating.

^^^ Agreed!

I wrote a much shorter letter than HRS' version, printed, signed, and mailed it.

Has anyone gotten any responses? Maybe the National House Rabbit Society homepage will have news of any developments.

Giving away bunnies at the county fair is a tradition where I come from. I've seen it since I was a kid and never really thought twice about it. YOu can also think of it this way. Some of those bunnies could be given to a little girl who takes great care of it. Wouldn't that be better than killing the poor thing?
