I take magnesium citrate in liquid form everynight before bed to help with my bowel movements. I want to stop. I feel held down and like this is a crutch I need to loose. However, I've been doing this for two years after getting off perscription laxatives and I'm scared I just...wont work without it. I eat really well, lots of fiber, water, etc.

Any suggestions on how to get off the magnesium? OR reasons to quit or not quit?

I take magnesium supplements every morning along with some orange juice. Why in the world would you want to quit??? (I have no idea if there is a difference in magnesium in a supplement form vs. liquid form)

I take magnesium because it helps tremendously with my anxiety. I don't have panic attacks AT ALL anymore! It's been over a year since my last one.

Magnesium is my favorite supplement and I would never in a million years give it up. Just my opinion.

have you talked to your doctor about this- and/or sorted out the reason that you needed laxatives in the first place?

if so, why don't you start taking a little bit less- say... a third or a quarter less than usual, for a few days, and see how it goes? you could give it two weeks, and see how you feel at the end of that period. then re-assess- maybe after the 2 weeks (or even a month?) if everything is going ok, you could drop down to a half dose, and go from there. if its not going ok, you can try another strategy.

that way its not like you're commiting yourself to so much of the emotional and potentially physical discomfort of stopping cold- you might feel a little less nervous knowing that its something you're taking charge of, but doing in small steps, and it'd probably be easier on your body too.
