- - Getting bloated when I eat
(https://www.veggieboards.com/forum/14-general-health-discussion/62758-getting-bloated-when-i-eat.html)
I don't understand what's going on. For a while now, I've been getting bloated after eating high fiber foods. And it's not because I just started eating a high fiber diet and my body needs to adjust because I've been eating a high fiber diet for 5 years! For example, I eat a big salad for lunch every day and I get so bloated from eating it that I feel disgusting for several hours and it takes me all afternoon to get back to feeling normal. It's so frustrating and I don't know what to do. I know it's healthy for me to eat high fiber foods, but I feel better when I eat junk food that's low in fiber. It's crazy!

I always feel kind of gassy after I eat...not bloated as such but I keep burping and y'know, other stuff...
I know it's not because I'm trying to be vegan though, that wouldn't make sense, but I'm sure a lot of people (in RL I mean) would argue that way... |
Your stomach might be shrinking.. .are you perhaps eating LESS than you used to?
Are you doing more exercise? Do you drink more water than you used to ? These are all things to consider or it may just be somethign developing in your gastrointestinal system you might want to research it further or go to the doctor |
I second that going to the doctor is never a bad idea....
That said, watch your salt intake. If it seems to be high (or higher than usual) that may be your problem. Things like salad dressing are loaded with salt... try and make your own. I have to watch my salt intake at "certain" times" because otherwise I feel super sluggish. Sometimes I do a salt challenge and see how much I can elliminate... which usually balances me out and adjusts my tastes so I don't include it too much ![]() Hope that helps! |
Do you swallow more air than usual? Did the change come quickly or more gradually?
|
I eat more volume than I used to because the food I eat are lower in calories. This has been going on for a few years since I started eating a larger volume of high fiber foods (since they are lower in calories). When I ate the SAD I never had a problem because I was eating a lot less volume of food because my foods were more calorie dense. Even now, I have an easier time digesting bread than a salad because of all the fiber in the salad. Then I burp for hours after I eat, which helps relieve the pressure of all the air. I think I eat too fast and swallow a lot of air and that explains the burping, but I still don't get why I can't seem to handle fiber.

Eat more blended food. That is general health advice that improve everyone's digestion, and everyone arguably could use better digestion. Blended Raw soups are nice. Smoothies are great too.
Celery juice helps us produce more hydrochloric acid which aids digestion too...and juice is very easy to digest too!!! Braggs Aple cider vinegar also increases HCA! |
if you're mostly eating fruit and vegetables you are bound to get bloated aren't you? i would!

I know fiber in fruits and veggies does expand in the stomach, but I know other people who eat mostly fruits and vegetables and don't get bloated. I mean, I eat a salad and I look pregnant afterward. I hate it! |
