American Heart Association re-emphasizes limits on saturated fat
The American Heart Association has re-emphasized the importance of limiting saturated fat in the diet: http://news.heart.org/cutting-satura...l-need-limits/
This appears to be an uphill battle, because certain famous "health gurus" are claiming that saturated fats are healthy and good for you. David Perlmutter (author of "Grain Brain") and the Weston A. Price Foundation are among those promoting more saturated fat. Even health food stores now sell big tubs of saturated-fat-rich coconut oil, despite the American Heart Association's long-standing advisory. . |

It begs the question, why? For what purpose are they encouraging harmful eating habits? What's the payoff?
my guess is advertising dollars? maybe mixed with a bit of laziness and a proclivity to wanting to believe it? They can be very persuasive - just before deciding to go WFPBed we had been eating coconut oil on everything (until I started feeling nauseous) and trying to be low carb, and I knew better, but still bought into the craziness. It is so confusing out there and if you are not a 'researcher' and even if you are it can be challenging to know what the truth is because there are billions of dollars at stake to keep people eating animals and oils and animal products. I know some people don't like Dr McDougall's style and yet if it hadn't been for him laying things out so clearly on Coast to Coast AM one night in October we might still be eating oils and bacon and eggs. ugh He laid it out in a way that made perfect sense from a health perspective and so made the decision much easier. I'm going on a raw egg, bacon, and butter cleanse to rid myself from all the deadly carbs. Wish me luck. :)
The damaging effects of these, "health gurus", is insane. No... some saturated fat will not make your heart explode. But getting like 70% of your calories from fat and going on a "lard cleanse"? Why D:? Even when I ate meat that sounds disgusting and unhealthy. Lol some people don't trust medical advice anymore, they would rather listen to some shirtless guy walking in a forest eating squirrel brains and spouting some mad dribble about government conspiracy and obtaining the state of "Super Health". |

Then realised that with the state of play in the 'health guru' world today, you might not even be joking  |
I'm not joking about the squirrel brain eating "guru". Just look on youtube omg, some of these people are mentally ill.
