I need some help, girls. Please- Late period, negative test

Alright, So I am kind of sort of really freaking out. I'll start with that this past month, I had a UTI 2 weeks before my next period was due. I got antibiotics for 4 days, and all went well. So now, I am 7 days late on my period going on 8. I am so not ready for this. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex once earlier in the month. He pulls out etc. Still not smart... Anyways! Now I am cramping the past week or so, have white discharge, and have period-like symptoms. I could have swore my one boob was leaking but I don't know if it was paranoia or what... I had taken a cheap pregnancy test when I was 4 days late, and another when I was 5 days late. Both negative. But I googled and have heard sooo many things I don't know what to think. I do not have health insurance so a clinic isn't really an option... It will be if that is all I have. Please, anyone share your opinion.. I don't know what to think anymore!

Could it be the antibiotics that are making your period late? My period has been a few days late a couple times because of medicine I took. Also, try to not be stressing out so much. Stress can make your period late too.

You should NEVER have unprotected sex if you don't want to get pregnant. NEVER.

...

As above said, your period could be late or missed entirely for various reasons including stress. If you want a regulated period, you could use hormonal birth control.

I was thinking the same thing.. when I was at the doctor for a follow up- She had mentioned that I should be fine, but did not give me a test. I have been stressing a lot.. But I am trying so hard not to because I want my period.
Thank you

Also, if you've radically changed your diet, it could cause a skipped period.

Would eating more fatty foods make it miss? I'm used to eating small portions, and healthy ones too. But this past month.. good god with my birthday and all I have been eating out way too much more than anyone should! But I thought only eating less would delay my cycle.

I wouldn't stress too much I have been 3 weeks late on my period before and it was nothing but stress... if you have taken a test and it is negitive chill out and hold off any sex until you have protection!

Things that could easily cause a late or skipped period:
being young, period not set into a cycle yet
random hormone fluctuations, sometimes they just happen
antibiotics messing with your body
STRESS
dietary changes
not eating enough
& of course being pregnant.

I would wait another week, try not to worry (super hard I know), but get a good (not the cheapest one, reputable brand) pregnancy test set. Be sure to read the instructions and get one for the correct time frame, whether you'll need an early test or not. Do it in the morning.

Also- you have GOT to either use protection or not have sex. Pulling out is so ineffective it basically doesn't count as birth control. Even if he pulls out every time without fail (which statistically just isn't going to happen), precum happens every time to every man. It can get you pregnant. I'd recommend you looking into options like the pill and IUDs and others and picking one, and using condoms. Your sexual health and pregnancy are two things to never mess around with. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this, and I hope things turn out ok for you!

My period's been late before, it's scary. Chances are if the tests are saying you're not pregnant, you're not pregnant. It can often just be stress that's causing something like this. But go back to the doctor to talk about it, if in say a week or two, you still haven't had your period.

Now, I assume you've worked out that you ABSOLUTELY need to be taking some form of contraception. Nothing like a pregnancy scare to make you re-evaluate the importance of a condom and other forms of 'just not getting pregnant', eh?

If there's not going to be a condom involved when you have sex, then you ABSOLUTELY need to be taking other precautions as well. In fact, I'd say a condom AND another form of contraceptive are the best ways to ensure you don't get pregnant.

Whether that's an IUD or The Pill, then you need to do that. Though, with antibiotics there can be the chance that they make things like The Pill LESS effective. So you need to either not having intercourse (there are other things you can both do that mean you won't get pregnant but still have a good time) or make him wear a condom. If he doesn't want to, that's his right, just as it's your right to tell him if it's not on, it's not on.

You might be in the kind of relationship where condoms aren't a thing you use because you're not having sex with other people and neither of you have any plans to have sex with someone else. But, be aware that not using condoms comes at it's own special kind of price that does not in any way ensure you aren't susceptible to diseases. A baby, hopefully, grows up after 18 years and leaves. Herpes is forever.

If you end this relationship, then you now have the responsibility to get yourself checked for STIs and STDs before having sex with someone else. No matter how certain you are of one another's sexual history, by not using a condom, you're opening yourself up to a lot of diseases. Diseases that kill.

I don't mean all of that to scare you. But with everything we choose to do, especially in regards to our sexual health, we have a certain amount of responsibility. You can choose not to use a condom, but it comes at the price of a lot of different things, including but not limited to, pregnancy scares and STI checks.

I've also had late periods many times, mine is always due to stress. Related to that, let me point out that if you had unprotected sex, chances are the "possibility" of being pregnant was enough stress to make your period late. Periods are like that - they are like a cruel sibling that will play a terrible trick on you if they know you are afraid of something!!

Years ago, I had an OB-GYN tell me that a truly 100% consistent regular period is a myth for most women. So I also vote for stress being the cause. If you want to, give it another couple of days and take another test. If you are not pregnant, then you may just need to wait it out, and never go anywhere without a tampon in your pocket.

And you are probably tired of hearing it, but I'll add my voice to the others. I'm kind of amazed that your BF has not considered the ramifications of an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, I am quite concerned about this. *Why* were you not using birth control? Was that his idea, or yours? It sounds like you are not ok with getting pregnant, so that leads me to believe that possibly he is trying to make you get pregnant - and that is a form of partner abuse. Beyond the obvious $250,000 price tag that comes with a baby (not to mention the risks to YOUR health), you need to take a very hard look at this relationship. Is there other abuse going on? Why is he so much ok with taking this very serious, very huge and very expensive risk? Please give this some consideration - and do not EVER have sex again without either: 1. "real" birth control, or 2. a full-on, deliberate plan to get pregnant (that you both buy into).

Thanks for your responses... And I do understand the consequences of not using birth control, etc. We've been together 3 years, I'm 19, and no I am not ready for a baby. But thanks for your advice and everything.

Hi Hayley. It is so hard to wait. The fact that you've had two negative pregnancy tests is encouraging. Wait another week and take one with your first morning urine. Hope everything works out.

You are probably ok then... Have you thought about getting on the pill or some other consistent birth control? I really hope your BF will be supportive of this. (Hint - he really ought to go with you to the doctor!)

Update: Woke up with major cramping that reminded me of period cramps... hour later go to the bathroom and it seems to me that I have got my period. so as long as I don't have one of those weird cases where I am pregnant with a period.. I should be good. Thank you all for my help.

I will be getting on birth control. I showed my boyfriend the forum, and he agreed that we are not taking enough responsibility for safe sex, and it really is something that we need to take responsibility for so that is changing now. Thank you all for you help. Maybe it was the stress, maybe the antibiotics... but either way I have my period now. And for one of the first times, its something I am excited about!! LOL - I texted my boyfriend after he left for work and after I began my period, and I think he was just as happy as me!

Thanks again everyone
