Ok, something weird is going on. My diet switch to vegetarian took place only a few months back, but I'm been steady on my feet until about the past week. Last week in the middle of the night I woke up so dizzy I couldn't see straight and then I got sick. Since then I have had periods of feeling dizzy and nauseous and just now I actually fainted. I was sitting here, typing up replies to a thread, when all the typeface on the monitor started swirling and the next thing I know I wake up on the floor. The only change I have made in my diet (which I thought was a positive one) is I gave up diet pepsi. Help!

rincaro 05-23-2004 08:04 PM

Ok, even though it should be completely impossible for a laundry list of reasons, my husband is out buying a prego test just in case. Not that it would be unwelcome, but whoa! Yeah, I'll sleep well tonight, wondering what that test will tell in the morning.

Peter Parker 05-23-2004 08:06 PM

are you eating enough?

Vegankat 05-23-2004 08:08 PM

Iron, maybe? Are you anemic? I get like that a lot because I'm typically really anemic. And a recovering anorexic. And sleep-deprived.

I hope everything's all right!

rincaro 05-23-2004 08:12 PM

Maybe it is the anemia again. I didn't think of that. I used to have it real bad, but I've been very careful about taking my supps.

Definitely eating enough. I'm more guilty of too much than not enough

Chook 05-23-2004 08:18 PM

Trot along your to your doctor. Sounds like labrynthitis, that affects the inner ear and balance mechanism. Had it a couple of years ago. Its generally caused by a virus. It will pass by itself but the doctor precribed Stemitel to control the symptoms. Hope you feel better soon.

rincaro 05-23-2004 08:20 PM

Yep, after I take the nice little pee test in the morning I will be making a doctor's appt. Just gotta know what kind to make...

GhostUser 05-23-2004 08:21 PM

You have up diet pepsi huh? Did you drink a lot of it?

When I dropped Coke, I was exactly like this. Caffeine withdrawl. Seriously, drink a pepsi and see how you feel. If it goes away, you know what it is.

mayuko 05-23-2004 08:33 PM

i was thinking the same thing. caffeine withdrawal is a pain in the butt.

brownieB26 05-23-2004 08:34 PM

oooh, I can't even deal with this suspense, I can't imagine how it must be for you! I think Krista is right though, it is probably caffiene withdrawal, especially if you drank a lot of it and especially if you used to drink the caffeinated version No matter what is the problem feel better soon!

rincaro 05-23-2004 08:35 PM

But if I drink one... argh! I've been drinking tea to combat the caffeine withdrawal. Could I have been addicted to the nutrasweet? (D*mn that toxic chemical cocktail). I did drink alot of it. Maybe this is just detox from the evil nutrasweet... wait, doesn't Monsanto make nutrasweet? Monsanto is evil. I am rambling... Time to go to sleep and wake up in the morning and take a pee test.

GhostUser 05-23-2004 08:37 PM

It's the caffeine, if you drank a lot. Trust me - that stuff is powerful.

bizarro 05-23-2004 09:59 PM

vertigo, brain tumor, hormones, seizure, starvation, sinus infection, ear infection, migraine....

who knows whats up?

if you are eating a normal amount of food i cant see how this would be diet related. you should see a doctor.

i have fainted many timesand had 2 seizures that i know of. i dont know why it happened to me either but it seems like i grew out of it.

vinceneilsgirl 05-24-2004 04:30 AM

I'm sure that there is some logical explanation that isn't anything to worry about.

If it is pregnancy we should throw you a shower right here on the Veggie Boards!

I didn't get chicken pox until I was 14 so I got DEATHLY ill. I was so sick I went to go to the bathroom one day and passed out. My fever got so high I had a seizure that made me throw up all over myself and scared the hell out of my mom.

rincaro 05-24-2004 06:03 AM

Well I'm not prego. Which is good news. Not that I wouldn't want another baby, but I recently had some surgery that would make a pregnancy very, very dangerous to me and a little bit. So that's off my mind. It's almost 8am here, so I am gonna make an appointment with a real doctor this week. I guess it could be a variety of things. For awhile I thought maybe it was the heat (we recently moved from OH to FL). But we've been here since the first of May. And if it was the heat you think I would have fainted while trudging up 3 flights of stairs in 85 degrees carrying huge, heavy things... Ah well. Must stop thinking. Must relax, and lay around and be lazy until I get to go to the doctor. Good thing I work p/t from home...

Peter Parker 05-24-2004 08:45 AM

great!

one more possibilty down. Sounds like your stressed out :/

How much water do you consume a day?

rincaro 05-24-2004 09:02 AM

Maybe not enough water. I stopped drinking the diet pepsi, but I replaced it with mostly iced tea (house wine of the south i'm told...) I probably should start tracking my water intake.

Peter Parker 05-24-2004 04:05 PM

no water, hot temps, a lot of work... sounds like a recipe for your symptoms. but Im not a dr.

You know, when Zach and I moved to FL (where in FL are u? We're in Titusville) from IA 3 years ago the same thing happend to me. Sometimes a change in climate can make you feel sick.

rincaro 05-28-2004 02:54 PM

Ok. The doctor says "nothing" is wrong with me that he can see. He took some blood test. I didn't like him. He didn't like me being veggie and told me that it was just because I was a northerner (like being a northerner was some sort of dread disease).

It's been coming and going, but it was bad today. Spent most of the afternoon lying down. I've been drinking plenty of water, taking my vitamins, etc. *sigh* I don't know what to do. I guess I will wait for test results and then maybe go see another doctor.

What a jerk!!! See what the test results show and see another doctor if your symptoms continue.

rincaro 05-28-2004 07:10 PM

I went out and bought some things that might help me. Lots of bananas because apparently it's kind of dangerous to take potassium supplements. Some of the floradix, in case my anemia has come back. And I will be the queen of water. Funny thing is, it was the hottest day so far this year hear and I felt better after being outside for awhile. We went for a drive in the jeep (with the windows out) and got lost and by dinner I felt much better. It would really suck to be allergic to this gorgeous apartment in some way.

Jinga 05-28-2004 07:31 PM

I had a similar problem recently. I'd feel faint and extremely weak. I even went home early a couple of times because I couldn't sit at my desk w/o feeling like I was going to pass out. Thankfully, I never actually fainted. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong, and all my blood tests were perfect. I too drink a lot of diet soda ... but I have not cut back. Other than stress and/or depression, I have no idea what the problem was.

IamJen 05-28-2004 08:57 PM

Do you know what tests the doctor/lab did? Several problems, many of which have been mentioned, could be detected easily in a blood test. Iron deficiency, B vitamin deficiency, thryoid conditions, enzymatic imbalances, etc. etc.

If you didn't like the doctor, definitely get a second opinion!

LadyFaile 05-29-2004 09:25 AM

yeah when you get the results find out if he tested your thyroid and B12 levels. having an underactive thyroid or being low on B12 can make you dizzy. before i went on my thyroid meds i used to have little blackouts all the time. i never actually fainted but i'd stand up and suddenly my vision would go black and i'd have to grab hold of something to keep from collapsing.

nowadays it's the B12 that gets me, if i forget to take my supplements for a few days i'll get lightheaded and dizzy and sometimes i'll "see trails"

rincaro 05-29-2004 03:41 PM

Well today I felt good all day. I took the floradix last night and this morning, and had a banana last night and a banana and a peach-strawberry-banana smoothie today. The floradix has 7.5 mcg of B12 in each 2 tsp serving. And you're supposed to take it twice a day. I'm not vegan, but I've been working on it. So I've covered my potassium, my iron, and my B12 bases. The only thing that was bad today is that the tea I got with brekkie was caffeine free and I got a slight caffeine headache. But so far, so good.

And even if that doc finds something, I'm taking the results to another doc. He was evil.

IamJen 05-29-2004 09:37 PM

Glad to hear you are doing better!
