I haven't been farting as much as I normally. When I ate a lot of junk I farted more. But becoming a vegetarian it decreased. I'm wondering if this is healthy.

8/3/2010 is the last time I consumed meat.
8/4/2010 is when I became a full blown Vegetarian and I couldn't be more proud.

Usually we get threads about newbies having too much gas. I think this is the first one I've seen asking about too little!

How does your tummy feel? If there's no bloating or cramps or pain of any kind, I'd just chalk it up to yet another benefit of going veg.

No cramps or anything. I mean I have farted, but not a lot.

beans, beans, the musical fruit
the more you eat, the more you toot
the more you toot, the better you feel
so eat your beans at every meal!

beans, beans, good for your heart,
the more you eat, the more you fart
the more you fart, the better you feel
so eat your beans at every meal!

omg, if you've been eating beans and you're not farting enough, i'd go straight to the emergency room. it could mean you've got heat problems. good luck, and tell them a nurse sent you.

As long as your stomach feels fine and you're going to the bathroom normally, keep doing what you're doing My stomach issues went away almost completely when I went veg. Some foods will cause more gas, like beans and broccoli, but there's no harm. When you make beans yourself, make sure to soak them overnight and rinse them really well, this will help prevent gas (I think it's the starch that is washed out).

Me too. I used to have AWFUL gas! And reflux, and stomach pains, and I would get constipated. All of that disappeared. Some people notice more gas at first because of the fiber in plants (assuming you eat more of those when you take out the meat) but it's temporary. I never noticed more gas and after a while it just went away. I still get gas when I eat cabbage though. :-D

I hardly ever get gas now. I add hing (asafoetida) to nearly everything I cook, and among its many wonderful benefits it helps with digestion and with anti-flatulence.

I found meat gave me gas more than anything else did. I've always been okay with beans, even if I don't soak them (I almost always do). Eggs and apples in the morning always gave me bad gas. And cabbage.

I used to be up in the middle of the night, at least once a week, with nausea and stomach cramps. It was insane how fast that changed. I didn't know it was linked to my meat eating, that's another motivation to never go back

I've noticed the opposite it's pretty much calmed down but up until the last couple of days I've had really bad gas and I know this is a lot of info you don't need but I am going to the bathroom more often and easier than I ever have. Everything has calmed down for me finally but if you are going to the bathroom regularly and aren't in pain I wouldn't worry about it, I would just be thankful that you don't have to deal with it as much. I'm glad to be over the detox period.

I bought some of that stuff, asafoetida. My grandma used to tie it around our necks when we were kids to keep us from getting sick. Aweful smelling stuff. I have wanted to try cookng with it but it smell is so strong I'm afraid the taste will be overpowering. any recipe suggestions?

I found that when I ate my fruits and vegetables more often, I didn't have such foul smelling gas. When I eat junk food (i.e. mass amounts of potato chips), I produce foul smelling gas the next day. Like, deadly..

Yeah, I've noticed that too.

I used to get bad gas from dairy, then when I went vegan it got worse for a couple weeks as I guess my body was adjusting, and now I think I'm at a pretty reasonable level and it's hardly ever an issue.

I fart the same amount as I used to, but the phrase "ninja assassin" springs to mind...

I know this is strange, but I seem to fart a lot more when I have eaten a lot of fruit, as apposed to times where I eat very little fruit. Is it normal for fruit to cause gas?

That happens to me ALL the time. Not strange for me at all.

Haha okay good. I thought it was strange, I would have thought fruit would have the opposite effect.
