I've been having some really weird problems. Off and on for a few weeks about 1-3 times a week I couldn't talk for an hour or two. On January 25 I couldn't talk, and I could barely move my arms and legs. My parents and I thought I that I needed to go to the hospital. They eventually found out it wasn't nuerological, and sent me home with an extremely higher perscription for xanex. Since then my arms and legs are (usually) better, but there has only been a combined total of less than two minutes I could say anything. My psychiatrist has never seen this before, and no one seems to know what to do. It's annoying to write everything down instead of talking. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but diagnosing a problem like that is best left to the professionals, instead of asking people on a forum.



As a nurse, I can say that I haven't heard of something like that, that only lasts a short period of time. I know there have been many cases of Guillian Barre syndrome......I can NOT diagnose you, but do these symptoms sound familiar? This does sound like anxiety to me, however it also sounds a bit like sleep paralysis but just when you are awake. I know of no cases where that has happened, but hey, there's a first for everything.

Just out of curiousity , are you on any other medication?

The best thing to do is to ignore all medical advice given by random unqualified people on messageboards and to speak to your doctor and/or other qualified medical professionals about this.

Yes, I agree. You should talk to a professional doctor. Also, get a second opinion if necessary.



However, it doesn't hurt to get additional information from a message board, research it further, and if it sounds reasonable, bring it to your doctor's attention. They are only human after all.



On two occasions I've done it. My doctor has either said he already considered it or ruled it out. But it's always worth a shot.
