Interesting article on a vegan's battle with acne and successes by eliminating refined sugar and refined flour and dairy from their diet:

Go to the Dr, because acne is hormonal and not caused by diet?

My acne improved when I cut back on dairy products. Prior to that, I had to take medications my acne was that bad. I think diet contributes to acne, but if you have it really bad you may want to see a doctor as well.

Omega 3 fatty acids I've heard are good for the skin as well.

It's not caused by diet but diet can be a factor in how severe/how often you get it. A lot of times people who are allergic to certain foods get acne.

yes some acne flair ups are hormone related, which is exactly why dairy needs to be eliminated from the diet to keep acne under control.

the animals that people get dairy products from are given hormones in order to keep making milk, when we eat dairy products we are also ingesting these hormones, knocking off our own hormonal balance resulting in acne (and a bunch of other sad side effects).

this is also why acne is so much worse during the teen years, when hormones are going wacky, and even more reason why teens should eat as healthy as dairy!

Eliminate or reduce cooked food and eat plenty of fresh, ripe, organic, raw fruits and vegetables. Drink green juices (fresh) if you can.

Zinc is supposed to really help so take a supplement or eat foods rich in it.

Diet isn't the be all and end all though, so see a dermatologist too.

Cutting out dairy worked for me. Actually, it worked so well for my [usually] oily skin, that I had to start eating more healthy fats [like nuts and seeds] or else my skin would get too dry! Good luck!

was a saliva test done to determine your hormone levels? this is the most accurate test for determining hormone imbalance because it detects the bio-available hormones that are often not seen in blood tests.

Weird for me is that the closer I become to vegan the more bacne I get. I have never really gotten bacne . It is kinda making me mad... I live in SC an it gets hot.

I guess I will try some different products.
