I got 12 and I need 2.8 planets. But that's only because I can't drive and so it's hard for me to even go anywhere. I'd be a lot worse.

I got an 11.... hmmm.... kind of freaky how much the normal omnivore might score. I think I have room for improvement though as a vegetarian going more and more vegan. Yes, so far if everyone lived like me, we would use up like 2.4 worlds, so my goal is... 1.5! Ahh.. the world is goind down the drain.

Living in Ohio in my big house with my 7-person-family, riding my bike to work, having a garden and trying to buy local foods, I scored a 9. However, since I've taken two trips by plane in the last year and a half, I couldn't put a zero for flying. I look at flying as instrumental to my learning about other cultures and the world as a whole, so I think ultimately it's a positive. I just couldn't see myself taking a boat to Spain.

I redid the quiz to calculate how much I used when I was in Barcelona, and I got a 1.7. The average Spaniard is a 4.7. My 1.7 is lower than the 1.8 that the world actually has for me, so if I were to move back to Barcelona and do the same stuff I did there, I'd be on the positive side of the equation. Nevermind the almost $1000 plane ride to get there... I think Barcelona scored me lower because it's such a moderate climate, and it's a big city.

That's funny...I always thought that smaller cities could be a whole lot more efficient than the monstro-cities. For example, local goods can get to smaller cities from the surrounding areas, while urban sprawl around huge cities makes local produce farther and farther away.

Q: How many poets does it take to change a light bulb? A: 1001...one to change the bulb, 1000 to say it's already been done.

My total footprint was 1.3.

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 8.8 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 1.0 PLANETS

I grow a lot of my own food organically and we can / dry / freeze a lot of it. We try to buy locally and buy bulk as often as we can (i.e. legumes, grains, etc.) and make a lot of stuff from scratch. I don't drive (I work ten minutes away from home and my school is an easy 20-25 minute walk for the few classes I take) and I don't fly. Actually, I've never flown.

I agree with the comment about companion animals, though. I have six cats and I'm sure that had there been a question about that, I would have scored much lower.

Its funny that my highest 'rating' was for household. I live in a small apartment, one bedroom for two people. Everyone here in Charlotte that comes over basically comments on the small size of my living space. And yet that's what hurt me most. Course the houses here in Charlotte are rather well...huge.

I scored a ten. If everyone lived like me we'd need two and a half planets. But I was able to put down some good things, like buying locally grown and lots of unprocessed foods, and being a strict vegetarian. Plus I haven't flown at all recently.

Thanks, that was a very interesting quiz.

I did recently do something to cut down on my waste. I stopped using paper towels and napkins. Now I use cloth towels for spills and cloth napkins at every meal. However I do need to recycle much more than I do. Right now it's mainly just bottles, I need to be doing all cardboard/box products as well.

Paper plates??? YIKES.

better than average but not as good as i want it to be. but i recycle everything i possibly can, live in a small home, use cloth napkins and clean with cloth. When i do buy paper towels i use only 100% recycled (7th generation) and only use it when i clean mirrors and windows. I make my own cleaning products, and i watch my electricity and water use closely. I think i should be a 5 *sniff*

Had to guess the size of the house and the fuel efficiency of the car. I don't drive and I live with my parents so hopefully my footprint will be a lot smaller when I move out.

I put down my use of processed and packaged food as a quatre. I went back to play around with the thing and found if I doubled my package food usage my footprint would sky rocket to 17.1 and we would need 9.5 That's plain scary.

1.6? Darn. But oh my goodness, I had less than a THIRD of the average and we still need more than one planet to support me! Geez louise.

My high school had a campaigns about the ecological footprint for the past two years, sponsored by the "Free the Planet" club. We put up touch screens, which were donated by a program called "Sustainable Charlotte," with a special version of the footprint calculator on them that a friend of mine and I programmed. The rich preppy kids who actually tried it were very surprised, and some of them even made a few small efforts to mend their ways. We also put out huge piles of trash in our quad and roped them off. Each pile represented the average amount of waste produced by an individual from different countries. The U.S. pile was of course the biggest. It got us a lot of media coverage and got the school some grants that the students are going to use next year to do even more environmental awareness projects. Those, along with our other efforts to promote sustainability in Charlotte, won us the "Community Problem Solvers" world competition. So, go eco footprint calc!

Last year I had a 10, now a 12.

I suppose thats because I drive around more. Where I used to live, I used to ride my bike everywhere, now I drive becasue I work further away.

I've always thought I was pretty average in my consumption, except with respect to my diet. I wonder how big a difference it would make if I was exactly the same, but ate meat with every meal....

This is the result with all the same answers, except I changed my diet to "Eats meat with every meal" and it increased my footprint by 3 (+17.6%).
