I know this is from the DM but my roommate sent it to me YAY:

Quote:
Britons should turn vegetarian to help beat global warming, according to one of the world's top experts on climate change.

Lord Stern said methane emissions from cows and pigs were putting 'enormous pressure' on the world.

The peer, who wrote an influential review of climate change in 2006, advocated a meat-free diet and called on people to think more about the effect of what they eat.

He predicted people's attitudes to eating meat would change so much with time that it would eventually become unacceptable - in the same way as drink driving.

And he also forecast the price of meat and other foods that generate a lot of greenhouse gases could rise after December's pivotal climate change conference.

While today is still today, choose well.

the problem is. If everyone gives up meat and not dairy. You're going to have the same methane-emission problems from cows.

I think they will realise this eventually. The biggest hurdle will be to make them give up the meat.

By the way, this story was also the main article on the front page of yesterday's The Times. I thought that was pretty awasome!

People will need to turn vegetarian if the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming.

In an interview with The Times, Lord Stern of Brentford said: Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the worlds resources. A vegetarian diet is better.

Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas.

I no longer post here after VB was sold in 2012. (See my profile page for details.)
