Marcthevegan: "Do any of you know of any vegetarian activities or things in the London area?"

Try emailing the Toronto Vegetarian Association at: [email protected] or call them at: (416) 544 - 9800. They have lots of information about vegetarian groups and events in other cities.

My recommendations are...

- check out the local universities/colleges and see if they have any animal rights/environmental groups.

- i think there's at least one vegetarian restaurant in london. you can try going in there and see what the employees know. you can find restaurants in your area at: www.veg.ca/directory

- if you can't find anything, try starting your own group! promote your groups at supermarkets, schools, vegetarian restaurants, health food stores, etc. if u need help with ideas and info about starting a group, check out the activism section of veggieboards

Good Luck!!

Hey all,

just a quick (late) hello from London Ontario.

My wife and I are long-term vegans and very outdoorsy types.

We are very active and share our lives with a sweet doggy (see avatar).

Nice to see so many people on the board!

Hi All,

I was a member and used to post a couple of years ago but I kind of forgot about this place. I couldn't get my old password to work so I've re-registered. I'm in Windsor, Ontario. The avatar is a picture of my wonderful Border Collie, Olive.

Hi guys. I'm sorry to hear that SARS has affected you negatively. Wendy, I especially feel bad for you. I hope everything works out and we aren't touched with such an aweful virus again.

I just wanted to let you all know that there is a anti-meat protest going on in places throughout Ontario on March 20th sponsored by PETA. Its focus is on the treatment of animals raised for slaughter. Check out the website for more info! kiss, hug, peace out!

skarrlett, Zen Gardens is super-fab! I love it there... its not the cheapest place (i am a starving student after-all) so I've only been twice. Its a really great atmosophere, and the people there are so nice. It only has oriental food, so if you like that, you'll probably really like it.

ooooh, now i wanna go....

Woodstock? Cool.. I grew up there. I moved to London about 4 years ago.

Zen Gardens is on Dundas St. across from the Delta Armouries. Dundas & Wellington.

The vegan chicken balls at Zen Garden are the best, although the last time they didn't cook them enough. It was a night of UFC and vegan fried goodness.

How many people on here live in or near London (including surrounding towns.. St. Thomas, Stratford, Woodstock etc.)? Speak up, it's nice to know others are around this area.

Recently renovated house, now filled up except for one room on the 3rd

floor. The house was built in 1895 and still has much of the original

Victorian moldings, plaster ceilings and walls. New appliances,

bathrooms, hardwood flooring, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, etc.

The room is just under 100 sq ft, and includes a large closet with

mirror doors. It's enough space for a double bed, desk, and maybe a

small table or bookshelf. There's a really big window.

On Harbord St at Bathurst, 5 minutes from the subway. $500 rent

includes internet, laundry, and all utilities. Also, central air

conditioning, which will be nice in the summertime!

You would be a good fit for this household if you:

1) are vegetarian/vegan (pretty obvious)

2) are in your 20s or early 30s - student or young professional

3) like cats (there are three, although they pretty much stay in their

own rooms)

4) appreciate old houses (like plaster ceilings and walls, large door

frames and baseboards, large windows, etc. )

5) are a non-smoker

6) are friendly and social, but not a loud party animal

7) looking for a long-term home, move in date May 1 or before

Email for more informatin or to set up a time to view.

hey if any of you happen to come across a boston terrier or french bulldog up for adoption at local shelters please let me know

we've settled on either of those 2 breeds but we don't want to go through a breeder. having a hard time finding them online. oh, they don't have to be purebred but we'd prefer young/puppies.

petfinder didn't have anything

Khadijah, check out the Toronto Vegetarian Association (TVA) (www.veg.ca). As well as a really informative website and lots of volunteer opportunities, they have a bunch of different social groups that meet for dinners, movies, potlucks, and lots of other events. The groups include: Vegan Family Group, Vegetarians In Their Twenties, TVA Singles, Raw Food, Dinner-Social, and lots more. Volunteering with them is also a good way to meet more people.

hey guys, small favour to ask. hubby and i are thinking about getting a dog. specifically, a boston terrier or pug. we will not buy from a breeder obviously so we're just keeping an eye out at the shelters in the area. unfortunately there's only one shelter in our town so i've been checking the others via their websites. i think some of them don't update their sites very often though.

so if anyone in the London or KW area and anywhere in between happen to spot a BT or pug (don't have to be purebred we'd take a mix) in their local shelters please give me a heads up

thankees

Pugs are so hard to come by. I was looking to adopt one but all I could ever find were breeders and I was not into that route. I used to volunteer at the London Humane Society and I only remember one small dog ever coming to the shelter.

Try this site:

oh yeah, i saw that site when i was rootin around the other day.

it's sad that so many large dogs end up in shelters. all the shelter listings i looked at were full of larger breeds. soooo many pit bulls. and lots of huskies. unfortunately we just can't accommodate a large dog.

anyway the Stratford SPCA said they do sometimes get bossies and pugs in and we should just keep checking. so i figured i'd post in case any members in the area spot one in their local shelters in the meantime.

unfortunately boston terriers are popular for their looks and personalities but not for their health issues. a customer came into work with one, i asked if he bought her from a breeder or found her in a shelter. he said a friend got her from a breeder, paid $800 for her and then gave her to him because he didn't want to deal with her health issues.

and i know of someone who has 3 (i'm not sure but i think it might be the guy who gave that one up). so if there's a local breeder odds are pretty good of the odd one ending up in the shelter, but like the one i met the other day, most of them probably are unhealthy.

i wish people would stop seeing small breeds as fashion accessories

Hey I'm originally from Sarnia (ewww) On. recently moved to St Thomas and I seriously don't think there are ANY vegetarians here. (if they are I haven't seen em yet.) I miss my veg network in Sarnia though.
