Hey there. I am going to be moving to Hamilton some time next month, but the problem for me is that I've never actually been there!

Are there any members who live there? I am hoping to find a bit of information, particularily which grocery stores have a nice vegan selection, maybe some place where I can pick up a treat, or any other vegany places of interest.

I've looked around some sites such as Happy Cow but they haven't been terribly helpful with this. If anyone can help out or even suggest another site to look at, I would really sppreciate it. I'm looking forward to exploring this new city. Thank you!

i'm not from hamilton. i think i went there once though. didn't eat anything, alas. anyway um... in a poorly masked attempt to be helpful incase there aren't any hamilton vegans...

i found a 'vegetarian' restaurant section on the tourism hamilton website (one of which seems to be very fish heavy ) which might help a bit:

http://www.tourismhamilton.com/whatt...=3278&sub=3413

beyond that, i'd google big chain supermarkets and see which have a branch in hamilton, and which of those are biggest- they'd be the best bets to go and scope out first- you could always phone or email them and ask if they have a natural foods section with meat alternatives, etc, if the website doesn't say. if nothing else they might think "damnit, we should have one of those!" if they don't have one already.

i bet you got this with google already too: http://www.vegguide.org/region/289

Ah! They have Daiya! *jumps up and down*
One of those doesn't seem to far from where I will be. I hope their Tofurky selection is good.

Hi I live in Hamilton and have been mostly vegan since September. Not many vegans in town!

Well, that's not very encouraging.
At least one more is coming your way! I'm still excited about visiting Goodness Me. Have you ever shopped there?

Hey Everyone!

Viridescent- I went to McMaster for my undergrad, and just graduated last year. So I lived in Hamilton for four years. Goodness Me has a HUGE variety of vegan/vegetarian food and organic food. There is a a large Goodness Me in Upper Hamilton, but there's also a smaller one downtown, so regardless of where you live you will be able to access it by public transit (or your own car, if you've got one!).

And can I please tell you about a veg restaurant that I absolutely love: Affinity. Oh. My. Goodness. I don't eat out a lot, as I'd rather make my own food, but that's a great Hamilton restaurant! It's downtown on James St ( I think-- or very close! It should be on happy cow). It has random hours, but it's never really HUGELY busy, and they provide wonderful service.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent. I apologize. I know that wasn't your question. I just had to share! Happy living in Hamilton!
