So I know PETA-bashing is so passé, but when I read this from the PETA2 Daily Blog, I couldn't help myself:

Help Battle Seal Slaughterers in World of Warcraft!

The fight against the Canadian seal slaughter has gone digital!

That's right, gamers, get ready: This Saturday, World of Warcraft (WoW) players will have the opportunity to combat a team of four Horde seal killers. We need your help to stop them from bashing in the heads of any more seals!

Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur.

Activists from across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are banding together to put a stop to the atrocious seal slaughter. Anyone who slaughters baby seals for their fur must surely be in service to the evil Lich King.

You must be in the WhisperWind realm in order to fight. Visit WorldofWarcraft.com if you need information about how to switch into this realm.

Once in the WhisperWind realm, go to Northrend, where you will find a zone called Howling Fjord, where the baby seals live on glaciers and boats float in the fjords. This will be the battleground to stop the slaughter. (Note: You must be at least a Level 70 player in order to enter Howling Fjord.)

The battle will take place on Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. EST.

Sure seal clubbing is sick, but do you really need to make a fuss about what goes on in a fantasy game?

But what really got me was this part:

Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance...

Whoa... PETA is Alliance? Not acceptable. (lol)

The funny thing is, the Alliance has several quests that require the killing of a certain amount of animals, yet they make a fuss about the Horde's seal quest!?

This is far from the biggest issue with WoW. This game steals people away from real life.

Yay, we fought off the Alliance! They were killing a number of our seal hunters but then they remembered they had a better quest with better xp and rewards, something about how they have to get 60 tiger pelts for this NPC

Often if someone is willing to abuse an animal in a game or other platform, they will be more complacent about the issue of animal abuse in real life. Not always of course, but I think that might be a point PETA was trying to make.

Errr... but all the high level PETA players taking part in this were already killing digital animals to level up. Killing things is mostly how you progress in WoW.

Aha, I understand. That is pretty hypocritical then. I have never played WoW myself but know many of my friends who have lost their "lives" to it, lol.
