I got banned at a popular homesteading forum for saying the following, in summary:
Quote:
- The industrialization of our livestock industries is wrong, unhealthy, cruel and inhumane.
- Large corporations are primarly responsible for the mistreatment and abuse. - We are charged by the Bible to care for our animals in practical ways. - Based on these views, I don't greive when I hear of another slaughter house closing down, infact I rejoice. ![]() ![]() |
if you'd said the opposite here, you'd have got banned for it too.
|
Yes, but it's a homesteader forum, not an agribusiness forum. One would think that, if not especially sympathetic to an AR viewpoint, homesteaders would at least be receptive to the notion of the food industry being too industrialized!

I've talked to homesteaders who were creating what could be percieved of as minature factory farms as part of revenue generation for their livelihood. |
Why are forums, in general, so quick to ban someone? Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
|
|
So it's censorship.
|
^^^ or breach of contract?

If I go into a church and start shouting about how Christianity is a fiction, I'd expect to get thrown out. I wouldn't consider my freedom of speech to have been restricted. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to say what you want, how you want, whenever you want. Similarly with internet forums... some of your opinions may be considered inappropriate for a particular forum (advocating animal abuse on VB, for example). You're still perfectly free to go voice your opinion on another forum, or even start up a forum of your own. Your freedom of speech has not been restricted. |
Forums are not a free country. They are owned by an individual who pays for their upkeep. If you sign up for one, you agree to the rules of their "club" so to speak -- if you disobey those rules, you can expect that you will not be allowed to participate anymore. |
Christians typically are willingly ignorant ... even if you don't come on so strongly, merely posing questions they cant answer will get you kicked out :P

Anyone else amused that FigsAndBerries now seems to have been banned? I'm not a board moderator, so I have to stick with virtual *****-slaps for people who think the first amendment applies to private organizations. Wish this forum had a fish-thwacking icon. |

Ott??

Something like this? ![]() Not the best. Rushed through it. |
Cute! How do you post that?

Some forums don't like overly political (or preachy) posts. They find them inflammatory. I guess they all have rules.
|
I was doing my own thing quietly and YOU are the one who created this post trying to make a big deal out of it. Keep flaming the fire. That must be what you want. |
Pretty sensitive subject & always hard to figure out where to draw the line.
|
Isnt this the same as that guy who posted on here trying to do research for a vegetarianism debate? He signed up despite it being clearly stated that this is a forum for veggies or people seriously considering being veggie ONLY. Just saying...

People don't like to hear the truth???
|
^^^ looks more like they don't like to read oilpatch197's personal truth.
