Hi guys,

I live in Australia and am heading to the US next year for a friends wedding, while I'm there I'd thought I'd check out a few animal welfare places or events, I'm well aware of the disgusting way zoos and the like exploit animals but I was wondering if there were any real sancturies around that rescue animals and may need patronage to help with the animals long term care and to help rescue more animals from inhumane situations in the future? Or maybe there's a fundraiser happening that I could attend, I'd really love to check out the scene in the US and hopefully talk to some like minded people. I'll be over in July, the wedding's in Portland, Oregon after that I'll probably stay in LA for the rest of the trip but I'm not sure yet I haven't commited to anything and if there's something really worth checking out cross country then I might be able to swing by. And if there's anyone from Portland or LA could you suggest somewhere vegan (or vegan friendly vegetarian) to eat at or buy food from, maybe let me know of brand names. Oh and the biggie, please let me know if there are places (besides the obvious like zoos and McDonalds) that I should definately not patron.

Thanks a whole heap guys and maybe I'll see some of you over there!

You'd probably be quite interested in Farm Sanctuary. There's one in California!

Please also try to visit Animal Place in Vacaville. IMHO, this organization is developing what will become one of the most important educational outreach and farmed animal advocacy campaigns in years to come. Read more (PDF).

Keep on freepin' on
