I was just emailed this story. It contains video, which I haven't watched, as I think it shows the mountain lion being shot and killed.

honestly you would think someone in animal control or a wildlife rescue could have been called. I think a better plan would have been to dart the cat and move it. I think the police need training in handling things like this better.

This just happened in AZ as well. It's really upsetting to me.

I wonder if people who shoot dangerous-looking people lurking in their neighborhoods will get off in court by using this example.

People are such a scourge on the Earth.

When I first moved to my small mayberry community in the Sierra Nevadas when I was 11 I saw a mountain lion about once a week. In highschool I was lucky to see one once a year. They were being wiped out. I believe it was an attack that happened in Yosemite (about 1 1/2 hours from there) that begin to drive the locals on a mad hunting spree. If they saw one they killed it and since it was usually on their property there wasn't really anything that could be done. When I was 9 in the community I lived before I took regular hikes out in the backcountry and once came within feet of one. If they were the horrible monsters that people seem to make them out to be I would have been killed. Attacks only happen when a female is protecting her young or one is provoked.

I am appalled by that. The animal was sitting in a tree, not a harm to anybody and it was shot? That's ridiculous. I agree that Animal control should have been called to handle the situation.
