Joining forces with The Humane Society of the United States, more than 6,000 restaurants, grocery stores, and chefs are refraining from purchasing some or all Canadian seafood as part of the nonprofit’s Protect Seals boycott. The campaign, which aims to convince the Canadian government to end the annual commercial harp seal shunt, comes on the heels of Canadian legislative bill S-210—a landmark motion to ban the annual slaughter. “When I first found out about the commercial seal slaughter in Canada, I was shocked and disgusted,” says Iron Chef Cat Cora, who joins fellow Iron Chef Mario Batali, photographer Nigel Barker, and celebrities including Paul McCartney, Ke$ha, and Jackie Evancho in the boycott. Kathryn Kullber, marine wildlife director for HSUS states, “The end of the Canadian seal slaughter is finally in sight.”

I'd like to see the end of the seal slaughter and the fishing industry for good but this is a start. wink3.gif
