I'm amazed at how often apologists for vivisection assume science works like the public perception of science flowchart. The bottom flowchart is a more realistic portrayal of what actually goes on. This was posted to a health journalism blog I follow. Immediately reminded me of the majority of conversations I have with people about animal research.

Yeah I'm in grad school for environmental chemistry. Everyone who asks me what I've been doing this summer can't seem to understand why I can't just knock out my research in the 3 months I haven't had classes...

ETA: the "instrument breaks" part of the chart it total win!
