Next up is sequoia!
This interview will be from June 27th to July 4th.

Rules:
-Ask only a few questions at a time so the interviewee doesn't get overwhelmed and everyone has a chance to ask questions.
-At the end of the week, sequoia will choose next week's interviewee from her thread's participants. So, if you want to be interviewed, ask questions! (You can always decline if you are asked).
-Sequoia is free to skip any questions she wants.

Here are some to start:

-Location (as specific as you are comfortable being):
San Diego, CA
-Religious beliefs (or lack thereof):
spiritual atheist with Buddhist leanings.
-Political leanings:
complicated
-Are you a vegetarian or vegan (or something else)?:
I've been vegan for a little over one year. Before that, I was vegetarian for 3 years.
-What is the meaning behind your username?:
Sequoias are these gorgeous giant trees we have in California. They make me realize how small I am. They have been around longer than I have, and they will keep living long after I'm dead. Standing next to a sequoia is like eating a huge slice of humble pie, which I think is something everyone should experience. It makes you very much aware of where you stand in this universe.
-Have you ever met anyone famous?:
A lot of people. It was never really thrilling. Some were nice, but most were dull/unfriendly and had nothing interesting to say.
-Do you live with any companion animals?:
I have one dog (Peanut), two cats (Butter and Jelly), and a rabbit (Abner).
-Do you live with any companion humans?:
Yes. Hopefully that won't be the case soon.
-Where is your favorite place that you have visited?:
Yosemite. No contest. But Bryce Canyon, Zion NP, Arches NP, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, the Grand Tetons, and the Grand Canyon were all beautiful and perfect.
-What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?:
Not being a hypocrite who loves animals but still eats them.
-With whom would you most love to have dinner?:
Henry David Thoreau
-Do you have any secret talents?:
I can cross one eye at a time.
-What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?:
vegan cupcakes, creme brulee (sometimes I still make it for other people, upon request)
-What's your favorite restaurant?:
Sage in Echo Park. In San Diego, probably Jyoti Bihanga. They have really good vegan "meatloaf".
-What do you do to cheer yourself up when you're feeling blue?:
food, unfortunately
-What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?:
I once tried to make grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm not sure how I managed to mess that up.
-What's the one food/product, that you'd love to "veg*nize"?:
gourmet cheeses

Have fun!

If you could travel space and time, what one event would you choose to witness?

If you could save Owen Meany, would you?

Pirates or ninjas?

Have you ever seen the Ancient Bristlecone Pines? Being near the oldest living things in the world is very humbling too.

That's a tough question. I think I'll have to think about it and come back to it.

If you could save Owen Meany, would you?
I don't think so, because I think his death his prediction of it had such a profound impact on John and his faith. I also think it was an event that was meant to happen.

What's your favorite movie genre?
I like dark comedies.

Do you have any awesome stories about things that happened in your life?
Yes, but mostly they are funny anecdotal bits. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but when I do I'll get back to you.

Are creme brulees your favorite dessert?
Not since going vegan, but they used to be. I tried a few vegan creme brulee recipes but they just didn't cut it.

Do you believe in creatures like Bigfoot, Yeti, the Abominable Snowman, Loch Ness Monster, etc.?
I want to believe in them, but I don't. I think they're fun, though. And I'll watch those Discovery or Travel Channel shows about them.

Pirates. I used to be obsessed with them. I had a huge jolly roger flag hanging over my headboard on my bed.

I have That was very humbling too. Nature tends to have that effect on me.

sharks

Ask him/her it's true that if there were no spiders flies would become so numerous that they'd take over the earth. I remember hearing that in "Charlotte's Web" and have a hard time believing it

I'm really liking Gardein at the moment. I just had their orange chickn. It was great. It's just a bit too expensive. But I think my favorite will always be tofu.

Just a few weeks old.

Do you know much about your birth parents? Are you curious about them?
I don't know very much, no. I'm not all that curious, for some reason. Maybe one day I will be. Oddly, my birthmother did reach out to me on Facebook. It was strange. She is married now and has a few kids, which makes me happy.

What's the most surprising thing you've learned in life so far?
That some people really just don't give a damn. About anything.

Why didn't you name your rabbit "Bread" or something else that goes with "Peanut', "Butter" and "Jelly"?
I got Abner a few years before I got the cats. And I've had Peanut for 12 years. I actually didn't really mean to name the cats "Butter" and "Jelly" in order to be cute with the whole PB&J thing. Butter was just the perfect name for the male, because he's fat and yellow. And once I named him that, Jelly just sort of seemed to be the next logical choice for the female.

Peanut is a mutt. I think he's a golden retriever/yellow lab. Abner is a mini-rex. And Butter is a yellow/orange tabby with white. Jelly is a diluted calico. They are brother and sister. Their mom, Professor Purr, was a calico that had been abandoned and was living in the street. My ex-boyfriend and I found and adopted her, then discovered that she was pregnant. I kept Butter and Jelly, a friend of mine took Sly, and Lucas took Wicket and Professor Purr.

What's your favorite animal?
panda. And one day I will own this dress:

Have you ever seen Elf?
The Will Ferrell movie? I have. It was cute, but I find Will Ferrell insanely annoying.

Have you ever tried to hug an angry raccoon?
Haha, no. I've never pulled a Buddy

Why did you leave Los Angeles?

Do you wear jewelry? If so, what does your favorite piece of jewelry look like?

Strawberry jam or orange marmalade? (I've asked that question to a number of interviewees, and so far strawberry jam is winning hands down. I can't wait for the one who actually prefers orange marmalade.)

If you were to have a picnic in a grove of sequoias, what gourmet fixins would you pack?

Have you ever been in a Japanese garden and reveled in its zenness and tranquility?
