Up this week...Dogma!

What is the meaning behind your username?

By definition, I use "a set or established belief or principle" to describe dogma which is the name I ultimately decided to give to my favorite character I've ever invented. Dogma, as shown in my avatar, is basically the embodiment of neutrality and justice that roams the world mercilessly erasing all of the corruption in the world by liberating animals, destroying religions, collapsing governments etc, etc... He's androgynous (neither male nor female), but I refer to him as "he" simply because he's the evolution of a once psychotic male character (the converse of the new character I'm developing who's similar in nature, but originally female). Dogma's essentially a super strong, super fast, hyper intelligent inhuman superhero who stars in the game I'm developing.

Most people think my name represents the movie of the same title, though I've only ever seen a couple minutes of it and haven't been interested. Others think that because my username is Dogma, I must be innately religious if not Roman Catholic. This couldn't be further from the truth. Only 10% of people think it references the Yu-Gi-Oh! card, Destiny Hero, Dogma which is only vaguely accurate in that that's where I first found the word being used as a name and liked it.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

Don't think so. I'm not really interested in celebrities, let alone meeting them. I'm more interested in the people who remarkably aren't as popular as they deserve to be.

Do you live with any companion animals?

Not right now, however in the past I've lived with, counting backwards, 2 chinchillas, 8 ferrets, 1000s of seahorses, 2 shrimp, 4 fish, 3 dogs, 3 parrots, 9 cats, and a hamster.

If I could choose any animal to take care of right now, I'd say an iguana. Firstly because they're cool and underappreciated and secondly because I know them to be natural vegans.

Do you live with any companion humans?

No one I'm willing to openly admit I still tolerate. >_>

Where is your favorite place that you have visited?

Akihabara (Akiba, or Denki Gai ("Electric Town")) in Tokyo, Japan. It felt really surreal to step into the origin of cyberpunk fiction (let alone a foreign non-English speaking country). Akihabara had no shortage of electronics, anime and manga either. To this day I maintain that I enjoyed it more than my trip to Disney World. And that's saying a lot considering it was raining a lot while I was in Japan and I hardly bought anything.

What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?

I guess the slight fuzzy feeling of sanity in my consciousness. Beyond that, it mostly serves to burn a painfully sharp contrast in my mind with everyone else around me.

With whom would you most love to have dinner?

I guess my Finland penpal. Don't really care if it were dinner or not. A waffle in a dry cleaning room would do.

Do you have any secret talents?

Secret? Eh... I kind of like surprising people with my gaming skills. Multiple times I've picked up games I didn't own and had played very little of, but did incredibly well in (I think I just formulate strategies a lot faster). I got really good at Soul Calibur 2 really quick and I still remember picking up a controller at a friends house one day to play some Halo 2 and lobbing a plasma grenade into his face from all of the way across the map. My friends get sick of playing against me frequently, especially with games I actually own.

What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?

Uhhh... I really like the burritos I've made, but it's like, 3 ingredients plus a microwave. O_o

What's your favorite restaurant?

Can't think of one that doesn't serve meat.

What do you do to cheer yourself up when you're feeling blue?

Hmm... depends. Usually I just put on some music and do something shallow and absorbing, like game grinding or watching TV.

What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?

Back in middle school, I think, I had a cooking class and I got paired with the jocks. They were convinced that of all of the options we could have made, we had to make banana pudding. Not only was it poorly made, but the bananas were brown, mushy and rotten when we got them and someone may have mentioned that they had found them in the trash somewhere.

I don't even like bananas all that much to begin with.

What's the one food/product, that you'd love to "veg*nize"?

Cheese without a 4$ pricetag. Though to be more specific, I would relish a vegan ravioli and vegan pineapple pizza calzone.

This question spawns from your signature... How long have you identified yourself as straight edge?

saxyphonist 04-12-2010 04:42 PM

If you could instantly learn one instrument, what would it be?

*EDIT: Dammit! The server bombed and ruined my post. Repost!

Hey, thanks for choosing me by the way! :P

I've identified as long as I knew the term existed pretty much. I've never done drugs (smoking and willingly drinking included) and I'm very anti-promiscuity.

I'm hesitant to openly call myself straight edge, because I have nothing to do with the culture. Screaming so hard you could cough up a lung does not equal music. I'm more inclined to turn on some classical music than listen to that stuff.

Quote:

I'd say electric guitar (or maybe a piano (perhaps an organ)). I could play the acoustic somewhat and clarinet pretty well for some time, but I gave up both because of the awkward hand movements and split reeds and because I'm not fond of being forced into drill practicing every day immediately after school and homework.

I'd rather learn something at my own leisure. That's how I can now perform complex card production tricks.

If you don't mind me asking, what country do you live in now? Is that same the same place you grew up?

If you use FireFox, download the Lazarus add-on. It's a lifesaver.

You're welcome. xD The original person I chose did an interview back in 2006, so I started looking through some threads to see who seemed interesting and would want to do this. I saw your signature, it was interesting, and so you were one of the two new people I suggested. Haha.

That's cool. And I agree, I'm not fond of the music, either. The message behind it is great, but ehhh. Other than classical, what other music or bands/artists do you like or listen to?

Also, if you could have any superpower, which would it be?

I grew up in America (US) and live in America.

I gotta say though, it's nothing special.

Far from it.

FAR FROM IT.

I don't like my country.

Alright, installing it now.

I don't have a genre/band specific preference, I just have a very general taste in music. There are a few classic rock, alternative rock, metal and blues songs I think are really good, but I don't put any loyalty into anyone, everyone makes some pretty crap songs. If anything I'd say I like classical music best because I tend not to hear "bad" classical music. Today's rap and stuff is pretty crude and I don't care for it at all.

Typically I tend to like music that has an epic composition, one that you might find at the climax of a movie.

I've been working to make a top 100 song list of all time and so far Foo Fighters places the most top songs (Pretender, Everlong, and Learn to Fly are great), but Map of the Problematique by Muse is unfailingly my favorite song even though I don't really care for anything else by Muse.

Quote:

Oh dear. Ummm... well as long as immortality and imperviousness are out of bounds... flying and invisibility both have their perks, but as a spur of the moment I would probably choose flying.

Kellye 04-13-2010 01:35 PM

If you had to be stuck on a deserted island with one other person at VB for three years, who would it be?

I have no idea. If I could I'd refuse the option, otherwise I'd try to aim at living in the most peaceful time in American History. That way can easily botch it up.

Oh dear, I don't know anyone here well enough. I guess paprika27 based on what little I know.

I'd troll the Food Porn thread and pick whoever seems the best at rustic cooking or cooking with odd ingredients, or cooking with few ingredients. Gotta be practical here, it's three years on a deserted island!

Here is MY question for these threads... If you could go back in time and leave yourself a ten-word note, how old would your past-self be and what would the note say? No need to explain it to us, it might be more fun without context.

Agreed.

Whats your favorite food?

Amy SF 04-13-2010 03:57 PM

Hi there!

Strawberry jam or orange marmalade?

Have you ever seen any wildlife up close and personal?

Stranded on a deserted island: Which books would keep you sane?

How good (or bad) are you at being "green"?

I loved the taste of Pineapple Pizza Calzone, but now that I'm vegan, I'm not comfortable with calling it a favorite.

Strawberry jam.

Quote:

I've seen deer walk past a patio, raccoons living in a dumpster and raccoons sneaking into camp in the middle of the night to steal our water bottles and scented shampoo.

Not much wilder than that.

Quote:
Stranded on a deserted island: Which books would keep you sane?

I can't imagine what would keep me sane more, published books or the fact that I'd be in a completely uninhabited area for once in my life.

But if I had to drag some books along, I think I'd favor the Eragon series.

Quote:
How good (or bad) are you at being "green"?

Well I eat a lot and throw stuff into dumpsters regularly, so not too great.

However, I do walk everywhere, bike longer distances, favor recycling, I'm vegan, and would like to live in a completely self-sufficient home by way of personal turbine... so who knows. How does one measure "green-ness"?

I might leave something like this early into my 13th year:

Hmmmmmmm Alaska or Florida ( PICK FLORIDA!!!!!! LOL)

saxyphonist 04-14-2010 06:46 PM

What are your plans for after high school?

(That's assuming that you're also a teenager, which I'm pretty sure you are... If not, just ignore me.)

Ummm... Alaska. Coastal climate without the common threat of hurricanes.

Get a job, save up, and buy a brand-spankin' new computer so I can get started on some game development. Maybe an XBox 360 too.

Have you ever played Frisbee golf, Ultimate Frisbee or any other Frisbee-disc related sports?

Star Trek or Star Wars or ...?

Amy SF 04-15-2010 03:49 AM

Pirates or Ninjas?

Zombies or Vampires?

Any food-related guilty pleasures?

Which celebrity annoys you so much you want to walk up to that person and just kick their ass?

Dogma 04-15-2010 07:21 AM

Quote:

I've played both, but favor Frisbee Golf. One time I threw a driver and it sailed past 3 big oak trees that were blocking my sight of the goal and landed right in it.

Quote:
Star Trek or Star Wars or ...?

If this is sci-fi movies about space, then I pick Star Wars. But if I had to pick sci-fi tv shows about space I'd choose the Stargate series.

Quote:

Pirates or Ninjas?

Zombies or Vampires?

Vampires. They tend to be better on the eyes. Not the Twilight vampires though.

Quote:
Any food-related guilty pleasures?

Not since I'm vegan! *ba-dum-tsss*

Quote:

Hmmm... not sure. Most people could do with a good asskicking... can I choose Fred Phelps's wife? She's been on TV for a fair amount and gained if not popularity, then attention. Mainly I'm just really inclined to forcibly rip off that psychotic tweaked toothy grin she flashes for the cameras. The one that says "Hi, I'm trying to look photogenic and unphased while maintaining a dishonest composure about who I really am in light of disturbingly revealing interview questions. Ha ha ha! They JUST. DON'T. GET IT."

Don't have one. I do favor the black, white and some shade of red/orange/brown color scheme though.

What is one thing you absolutely can not stand, and if you saw/heard/felt/etc. it, you would *insert adjective here* (it)?

Do you have any phobias?

Favorite place to visit?

Veggily 04-21-2010 07:20 AM

favorite movie ever?

Dogma 04-21-2010 12:42 PM

((Sorry, spent a few days moving and just got internet back.))

Quote:

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. I really hate being told how I think or what I know. It's actually rather depressing to think that I'd actually get far more pissed off at someone telling me "oh you think you know everything!" than any one of the seemingly endless number of people who make totally prejudicial racist, sexist, speciesist and homophobic remarks regularly.

1. I do not know everything. I never will.

2. I never said I did. I never implied I did. Nor could anything I do ever amount to suggesting that I may in fact know anywhere near as much as everything.

3. You do not know what I'm thinking. You never will.

It's come to piss me off so much simply because so many people KEEP SAYING IT. It's like, "**** OFF, YOU MORONS."

Quote:
Do you have any phobias?

I have minor fears like the kind you get when you see a giant nasty centipede skim across your bedroom wall only to run over and not find it knowing full well that you're expected to sleep in there later.

I also hate most horror movies. They don't give me phobias, but I honestly have no masochistic appeal in watching some crippled Japanese ghoul leap out of dark corners for an hour and a half.

As for predominant fears... I don't really think I have any. Most situations that would invoke panic in people, like say confronting a burgler, would simply piss me off. Most people would freak and run to call 911, I'd probably find the nearest weapon and attack them with it.

Quote:
Favorite place to visit?

Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan

Quote:
favorite movie ever?

I'm not sure of what I'd constitute a movie truly worthy of my "favorite movie ever", so I'll stick with naming the movie I can stand to watch the most times and still really enjoy and that would be Little Miss Sunshine.
