The Official Veggieboards Christmas 2016 Thread!

It's December and that means the holiday season is officially upon us! Ho ho ho!

This is the thread to share holiday plans and recipes, Christmas present ideas, stocking stuffers, anything filled with Christmas cheer!

I'm going to be visiting my family who live in a town about an hour away and I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet! I have some fun ideas though, this year I'm going to bake everyone vegan cookies and put them in pretty decorative tins. I'll be like a goth vegan Martha Stewart.

If you need veg recipe ideas for the holidays check out the Veggieboards Pinterest boards:

Here are some of my favourite recipes I'm considering trying this year:

My first vegan christmas!

I think I am going for an Asian theme, mainly Indonesian inspired and mild on the spices because of my Crohns.

Thinking of bami goreng with seitan satay, a few vegetable sides dishes and fried plantain with soy vanilla ice cream for dessert

Nothing tastes as good as compassion feels

My first Christmas as a vegan too! We are going to my family's house for Christmas, and unfortunately they were not willing to give up their turkey (boo) but they are making vegan-ized sides, at least, so that's something! My husband and I will be bringing a Gardein holiday roast for ourselves and probably a dessert and some other nibbly things to share

For gifts this year I'm making almost everything. Handmade cold process vegan soaps, soup jars, knitted things, baked goods, etc. I personally don't need any more "stuff" nor do most people, so I thought handmade gifts people could actually USE would be a nice way to share the holiday spirit ^_^

I think this is my 4th or 5th year of being vegan for the holidays. Not sure what we are doing, but @Werewolf Girl 's recipes look delicious.

I finished Christmas shopping, did my Christmas shopping at Sephora and Macy's. Haven't decided what is on the menu yet.

I'm single, buddhist and have no family but my mom. She's invited to a christmas party with her friends ( she's single too) and I haven't been invited anywhere.

She suggested we can celebrate the day before Christmas if I want to, but we're both not very much into it so we've decided to celebrate new years eve together instead.

Which means I am alone at Christmas, and that's totally cool for me!

No complicated meals to cook, I'm going Bridget Jones style and burn some candles and incense while watching Christmas movies in my pj's and eating ice cream. Sounds fine to me

I'm not seeing any extended family this year due to health issues, will probably be a very unChristmasy Christmas. But I'm trying to stay merry in my own way.

We altered the theme slightly. We're now having Surinamese roti, potato curry, green beans, dahl and vegan cranberry pie

I made a nice tofurky roast on Thanksgiving with vegetables and heated up an accidentally vegan frozen cherry pie, and thought about doing something different for Christmas this year...the other day I prepared a seitan "pot roast" with root veggies, mushroom gravy and red wine, because it was a nice wintry dish...I could make another one of those or try a different vegan roast (though I really do enjoy the traditional tofurky, the way I prepare it). Or maybe I'll do this Brussel sprouts/cranberry/pecan salad I found with an orange dressing, and some kind of hearty soup.

Meh. I don't really have anyone to cook for this year, so you know, whatever. I found all these cool vegan Christmas cakes and puddings. Maybe I'll have something really basic and bake a fancy holiday dessert from scratch instead.

Decided to go with a cranberry orange seasonal cake to share with roomies, for a multi-cultural dessert, since Hannakah and Christmas intersect this year.

http://mydarlingvegan.com/2013/12/cr...ughts-on-baby/

Skipping the holiday roast in favor of a homemade vegan borscht (inspired by another member here lol but I have my own recipe...); perhaps I'll also make some simple vegan sausage puff pastry appetizers with a mustard-mayo dip or a dill mayo dip to accompany it.

That sounds SO good...

I'm going to visit my family in two days but I've been so busy with work I haven't started baking yet. Time to make a million cookies!

I make these vegan Peanut Butter Pillows by Isa Chandra Moskowitz every year and people go crazy for them, if you're looking for the perfect holiday cookie recipe this is the one:

And now, the other side of the story.

Ya know, I think you all need less or more normal people in your life.
