Does anyone know if Simply Wize gluten free gnocchi is vegan? I have been buying it for ages and love it but I saw it has lactic acid in there. I emailed the manufacturer but they haven't gone back to me.. might have to call them. If anyone already knows, I'd appreciate it :)

From shakahara.com:

Quote:
The source of commercial lactic acid used in consumer products is almost always carbohydrate fermentation.. The carbohydrates used are almost always obtained from plant sources.
Â
If the ingredient label on a food product or cosmetic product says "lactic acid," the lactic acid almost certainly comes from carbohydrate fermentation.
Â
Carbohydrate fermentation is the same process used to make beer, wine, and bread....
Â
....Note that lactose is different than lactic acid and that lactose is commonly derived from cows' milk.

Ok thanks Capstan. I had a feeling it was more likely to be plant derived but I wanted to be sure. I think I will give them a call on Monday just to double check, it will make me feel a bit better knowing for certain :)
