As a chess player/fan, I followed last month's world championship fairly closely, and I was pretty happy to see Viswanathan "Vishy" Anand of India win. He's been one of the top 2 or 3 players in the world for over 15 years, and he's reportedly one of the nicest, sanest grandmasters in the game, so he was a fan favorite to finally win an undisputed world championship title.

In reading an article on a chess web site this weekend, I discovered that he's also a vegetarian. I guess that isn't too surprising given that he's from India, which has a very large vegetarian population.

Just thought some of you might find this interesting. If nothing else, it gives you a good comeback the next time some ignorant omni tries to tell you that you need to eat meat for brain power.

Peter Leko is also vegetarian. He is ranked fifth in the world and has been a contender for the world crown for a decade.

I did not know that. I know who Leko is, but I didn't realize he's veg, too. So 2 of the 8 players to make it to the final world championship tournament last month are veg.
