Pig fat in tooth paste???? - VeggieBoards

During my philosophy and religion class last semester I was given an interesting tidbit. Our prof. was telling up how his wife works at one of the correctional institutions around here. She is in charge of ordering the supplies for the inmates. According to her she had to purchase "kosher" toothpaste for muslim and jewish inmates because many toothpastes contain pig fat. Apparently the ingriedient glycerin is usually derived from animal fat, most often pig fat. I have seen some types of glycerin derived from vegetable oils too. Anybody have any info on this???
