I want to get a new winter coat this year, as my usual one is made of down inside. I'm wondering what I should look for in a new coat so that it will be as warm as possible, but not have any fur/leather/feathers/ect. Any suggestions? I get cold very easily!!

A lot of the really warm things sold by places like LL Bean and Land's End are filled with Polartec fill. I'm pretty sure it's animal free and it's supposed to be mighty good stuff. OTOH, I think it may be made by du Pont, so, as with so many things in life, you have to pick the evil you can live with.

I know that most wintercoats that don't have down in them use 100% Polyester Polyfill. which is supper warm and holds up better than feathers anyday. At Target we rarely ever use down because it is too expensive so I would think that most discount stores will have that. H&M has some beautifull polyfilled puffers this season.

My winter coat is faux suede/faux shearling, and it keeps me fairly warm for Michigan. I'm also considering buying a faux fur jacket.

Sally, Not all of the polyfilled coats are puffy. Some are just lightly filled, like a quilt.

I bought a really nice coat from H&M that I wear for the winter. It keeps me toasty warm (more than my prevoius coats) and is stylish. And it was only I think $40, on sale. It isn't 100% vegan though, because it contains 5% wool. I bought it I think 3 years ago before I knew the horrors of the wool industry.

I also have a thick and too big for me peacoat that I got from a thrift store that I wear for the fall. It doesn't have a tag on it, so I'm not sure if it is vegan.

I shopped the North Face for my coat and got a snowboard shell w/a polartec fleece lining that's WARM for ohio winters and perfect for those icky days when it's too cold to go w/o one, but warm.. i like it cos it's vented, waterproof, and you can zip out and wear the fleece on its own.

i got my winter coat at the limited like five years ago and it's the best thing ever. i don't think i was vegan yet when i got it, but there's nothing non-vegan in it according to the tag.
