I went to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch and was excited to find they had "Soybean Milk" on the menu. Thinking it would be purely soymilk, I ordered a glass...it was mint green and thick, like a Shamrock shake (sorry in advance for a McD's reference). I had difficulty communicating w/ my waiter about its contents, but tried a tiny sip and it was really, really sweet...not your standard soymilk. I didn't trust the looks of it so I stopped right there. Anyone familiar with a mint green-hued "soybean milk"? I just want to know if it was indeed soymilk or milk-milk.

i googled vietnamese soybean milk, and i didn't see anything that suggested a huge difference from regular soymilk. there were a few references to "sweet soybean milk." however, soymilk isn't always dairy-free. sometimes soymilks in asian markets will have dairy ingredients, and my chinese teacher said that they mix soymilk and cow milk 50/50 in china (but i don't know that if this were served in a restaurant it would still be called soymilk. i think it's just how cow milk is frequently drunk, to reduce the amount of lactose).

What you're talking about probably contains condensed milk and green gelatin. It is a Vietnamese dessert, I think. Not vegan.
