Some background: I'm vegetarian*, hubby does all the cooking at home, and he's been cooking (and therefore eating) mostly veg (for me. Awwww....). He eats meat only when we eat out.

So he came home from the doctor's yesterday, with a warning to "get thee hence" to his cardiologist (he's had several bypasses over the years), because his EKG looked bad.

I kind of raised my eyebrow and said, "So, you ready to go vegan yet?" (I've been trying to get him to do so since reading Dean Ornish's book several years ago). He got real quiet for a few minutes, then sighed and said, "Yeah, okay."

So, as soon as the eggs in the fridge are gone (probably by the end of this week), we're taking the next step. Yay!!!

*Okay, okay. I'm *almost* vegetarian. I've been doing it for a year, but have slipped a couple times. It's been a month since the last slip. How long 'til I can call myself a real vegetarian?

Rock on! A diet free of cholesterol, combined with exercise, is a very healthy way to live! Best of luck. I hope everything turns out OK with the cardiologist.

I hope he can stick to it, for his sake, and yours!

Nice! I wish I had a vegan significant other...especially one who could buy me the overly-expensive DHA supplements...

Wonderful! My hubby is a chicken, fish, and dairy eater as well as eggs in recipes, but I'm working on him. At least (not to say it's a good thing) you have a health condition to use for leverage. My hubby hasn't been sick or to a doctor since he was 7 years old, he's 25 now.

I was wondering about the label thing, as well. I would like to call myself a pure vegan, but...I have had a few slip-up's, two times unintentional (discovered casein in a soy cheese, and whey in some veggie burgers) and I "caved" and had a small ice cream cone a few weeks ago.

You could say that you are 90% vegan or whatever percentage, I think that is fair.

Good luck.
