My usual answer: I have never heard a convincing reason to eat meat.

my grandma was trying to convince me to eat meat by telling a long and sad story about when she was a kid in the philippines and every year her family would buy a baby pig and they would raise it and eventually slaughter it. she was telling me how she became attached to the pig and cried when it died but still ate it. I'm like "......."

Yes, that is a great reason to (not) eat meat, grandma, thank you.

Is chicken a vegetable or a mineral?

Yeah I feel like they were confusing sentience for intelligence. Which funnily enough was brought up when I said that I didn't think intelligence was a good basis on what we eat.

my best friend said to me recently "yeah well you arent getting any iron/proper nutrients from your vegetarian meals".... (no judgement, but she lives on double quarter lb cheeseburgers from mcdonalds, and greasy deep fried food at home)...

I actually do care what I eat, and I take care to get plenty of protien, iron, calcium, fiber etc. I didnt stop eating animals so I could die from malnutrition myself.

I dont comment on my friends food choices, because we are friends. Also, she is 300 lbs or so, so I dont want to hurt her feelings.

But seriously, I am the one not getting proper nutrition? We hang out all the time, and I rarely see her eat any plants.

Whenever they say meat is a necessity or has protein, it's like the expect you to keel over or pass out as soon the reminded you of the nutrients you're missing lol :P

Next time we should say "you've opened my eyes, thank you!" and shake their hand in gratitude.

Then do what I do. Keep over and pretend to die and say in a raspy, shaky voice, "Lack of protein."

I love how those people who know basically nothing about veganism tell you what's vegan and what isn't.
