I don't like their public persona because I have doubts about how effective it is - they may get people to pay attention to their antics but does that get people to change? They do a lot of harm to our image because of the way they act, since they are considered the public figure for v*gans and animal rights and are often asked for comment when an animal issue is raised in the media. And the changes they bring about may help one aspect of animal welfare (like getting KFC to change their slaughtering methods)... but then they celebrate the change and give their approval to the company or industry that made the change. That ends up making the people who eat KFC feel better about their choice; it doesn't make people stop eating their chicken (it probobly increases the number of people who do because they think they are supporting a more 'humane' company). So yeah, that's my little peta rant

Wha? That is certainly a unique one! (don't think I've heard a veggie say that before)

Yeah when I was thinner being vegetarian wasn't good for me because I was ''malnourished''; now I weigh more I hear that my vegetarian diet is bad because of ''all the carbs''.. Either way they will want you to stop eating veg*n; that's what all that feigned ''concern'' is about.

Nothing tastes as good as compassion feels.

it doesnt mean that just because I am tired that I am not getting enough protein....it means I had a long day, didnt get enough sleep, rode 12 miles on my mountain bike after work/school.....but not that I am lacking protein.

that doesn't mean that it's part of my eating disorder.

When I was inpatient for eating disorder treatment they kept trying to make me eat meat, telling me it was part of a healthy balanced diet, and that I was "restricting food groups" by not eating meat. I told them hundreds of times that I've been a vegetarian for 2 whole years (I was only sick for a year) and that I went vegetarian after watching animal slaughter videos, not to try to lose weight. My mom even had to vouch for me that I'm an ethical vegetarian. The dietitian still kept trying to get me to eat fish though. Ugh.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. For some reason people who are not familiar with both automatically assume that vegetarianism is an eating disorder or that people who are vegetarian have an eating disorder.

I always feel bad for perpetuating that stereotype and being the vegetarian with an eating disorder. They really aren't related though!

CindyLennyCleo - You're vegetarian for ethical reasons, though. There are many vegetarians in the world and there are many people with eating disorders in the world and while many people with eating disorders are vegetarian for ethical reasons, vegetarianism and eating disorders are not mutually exclusive.

That I want to stand outside KFC during a blizzard holding up protest signs with you.
That I want to be harassed by you because I don't feel comfortable participating in such public attention drawing activism.
(I met an activist who assumed I was one also just because I am vegetarian.)

I may be vegetarian but...

I won't cry if you eat meat infront of me (but now suggested I might do it for the hell of it)
I won't freak out if I accidentaly eat a bug (more than you would)
I'm not gonna "go all hippie" on you.
I haven't seen the animal torture videos and I'm not gonna force you to see them

What?! I must have missed it! The only power I have so far is to read labels in 0.01 seconds. I want perfect hair!

And lasers.

I am sure I will think of more later, but please feel free to complete the phrase as you see fit!

LOVE the salad one, I get that constantly. Also add

...that doesn't mean I'm a picky eater (I eat a larger array of foods than meat-eaters thank you very much!)

+1

Just because I can't eat anything when I go to a lousy chain restaurant with you & happen to mention that I also dislike tomatoes & condiments does not equal picky eating!

I am SO glad to hear that others are not necessarily 100% pro PETA. Some of their views and actions really bother me. Especially since it casts a stereotype of all animal lovers/activists.

It doesn't mean I will judge you for eating meat, but I will threaten to cut you if you are an annoying human. I do love most animals more than most humans after all!!
