I recently learned from someone within the organization that more than one of the items marked "Vegetarian" on the menu actually contains animal products, for instance the French Onion soup which has a beef base but is market vegetarian.  I ordered a "vegetarian" soup there, and now I have discovered that soup contained chicken broth, which, for someone who has painstakingly peeled over labels for the past couple of years to make sure products are vegetarian a big deal.

Any suggestions on what to do about this, how to confront the organization are welcomed.

My name is Barry Larson and I am the District Manager of Black Walnut Cafe.  We are very respectful of our guests dietary needs and preferences and do not ever try to mislead our guest to believe that something is vegetarian when it is not.  When we rolled out a new menu in September, we changed our recipe for our Vegetable Zuppa soup to make it a vegetarian soup.  We changed the recipe, removed the chicken base and replaced it with a veggie base.  I personally made sure that the chicken based zuppa was discarded at all stores the morning that the new menu rolled out.  As far as our French Onion soup goes, we have never marketed that as a vegetarian soup.  If you can let me know how and where you saw it portrayed as a vegetarian soup we can figure out what happened that would be great.  Please contact me directly at [email protected] as I have a couple of follow up questions for you and I want to be available to answer any questions that you may have.  Thank you for your patronage and I hope to hear from you soon.

Warm Regards,

Barry Larson

District Manager
