Hey all. I'm most likely moving to Portland in the beginning of July! I'm so excited! I'm going up on the 18th to look around and try to find an apartment. However, since I've never been I don't know where to start. I want to live in a part of the city with more young like-minded artistic people that is more environmentally friendly. The less expensive the better. So, does anyone have any suggestions of where would be a good place to start my apartment hunt? Or anyplace I should avoid? Or any other advice about Portland would be more than welcome!

Hawthorne and Alberta are neighborhoods you might want to check out. Or neighborhoods that Hawthorne and Alberta are easy to get to from. Also Sellwood, but there are a lot of other nice places too. I've visited Portland many times and think about moving there myself. Will be interested to hear what others have to say on this thread. If you know where you'll be working, it would be good to live within a reasonable bike ride of your workplace.

Thanks, I will definitely check those neighborhoods out when I visit! Unfortunately, I have no job plans yet, so I'll probably end up finding an apartment first and then a job around where I live, if I can.

I live in NE - technically Concordia neighborhood, and I dig. There are parts of SE you might like too, or even Mississippi neighborhood.

Everyone's pretty smart. In OCtober, they can visit Hood River, OR and pick apples. Any time of the year they can visit the Long Beach Peninsula, or go to the Oregon Coast and see the Peter Iredale shipwreck. They can buy books at Powell's bookstore. And I'll stop there before I sell myself to Portland, OR, too.

Anytime I think I'm perfect, I remember that my cousin lives on an island, and I've never walked over to visit her.

Thanks for the suggestions. I <3 Portland! It's amazing. I'm pretty sad because I have to leave tomorrow, but I will be back in the beginning of July. I'm going to Alberta tomorrow. However, I'm pretty sure I want to live somewhere in the inner Southeast area. I can't wait!

Alberta rocks. That's my hood. I used to live right across the street from the nightlight in SE.

I really liked Alberta too! So, now I'm torn between Southeast and Northeast. At least I narrowed it down to less than half of Portland. I guess it'll just have to depend on where I can actually find a place to live in my price range.

Got back from my job interview in Portland last night. Hopefully I'll be hearing some good news soon.

Oh snap! You're wearing a Raiders hat. I'm a die hard fan...even though they suck right now.

Which one?

The Morrison, Hawthorne, Burnside, Broadway, or the Steel?

And what do we do with the Fremont and the Marquam that don't go up?

Which one?

All of them. And shutdown hwy 5 both directions. No one gets in or out of the Urban Growth Boundary. It's US vs THEM in a Mad Max style apocalyptic survival scenario.
