I'm sorry but I normally go by Tigerlily on other forums. I don't know why I picked nidobunny for this one. I really don't like it for a username on a forum.

If it's at all possible to change my username to Tigerlily, I would like that.

Thanks.

Just so you know, nidobunny, Michael very rarely grants user requests to change their username. It took him years to change the "S" in Skylark from a lowercase to an uppercase letter. What you're better off doing is re-registering under the name you want, and then PMing Michael to ask him to delete your nidobunny account. Since tigerlily is already taken, maybe you could be TiggaLily or something like that.

Since that tigerlily person isn't coming back, could that account be closed or whatever and then she could have the name?

I would think so, but I can't recall Michael ever granting a request like that. It's his call.

Sometimes members sign up, post a few times, leave, and come back months later to become active members.

Yeah, it's been suggested that old, unused accounts be purged, but Michael hasn't been receptive to the idea.

There are SO many old accounts that are unused or have been used just once or a few times after registering!

That seems to be a big problem on all websites now. Most sites i've seen remove users that haven't signed in, In the past 6 months. I would hope the site owner decides to clean up at some point, Nothing worse than a site so littered with unused accounts that new members have to spend hours coming up with a username.

Deleting accounts would mess up the site statistics. It would possibly also give us a disadvantage when we're being compared to some other sites that never delete accounts. (Although the number that really ought to be used when comparing sites is active members, not the total number of people who ever signed up.)

Perhaps more importantly, how can we know that someone who hasn't signed in for 6 months is not planning on coming back ever? Stranger things happen here on a regular basis

Also, if a new member takes over an old username, it could be confusing to other members.

I no longer post here after VB was sold in 2012. (See my profile page for details.)

Yeah, try being the birthday thread person and having to click on hundreds of names of people who are no longer here!! (It was suggested that we only post birthdays of people who have posted in the last 30 days).

As others have mentioned changing your user name is generally not allowed.

It is a really big deal. I can understand the hesitancy against changing someone's username on a message board. What if your parents found out?

This is the reason why I don't like to do it:

1) It's more work for me.

2) Your user name is your identity on this forum. If you change it I don't feel it's fair to those who have gotten to "know" you.

As I (we) joke about on another forums(run by a 20ish year old), he keeps all of the members to brag to his latest Girlfriend.

anyway, what the point of deleteing memebers? Im told they take up little space and obviosly don't make the forums slower since they aren't here.
