Is it just me, or has there been an awful lot of newbie spam lately.... more than usual? People signing up and then cross-posting the same question on several boards, or just signing up and starting around a dozen threads/polls of questionable intent? What's going on around here, is there some vast conspiracy or something (or have I been watching too many x-files reruns?)

no more so than usual, really... we've had a lot of new members overall, which leads to a proportional increase in spam. Although there do seem to be more of the "I'm a vegan, check out my vegan site" types than the expected "Free iPod" types.

If you see someone posting a link in their very first post, please let the mods know, so we can look at it. In general, no matter how well-intended, we prefer that new members contribute to the community before they ask for traffic to their sites...

Whew! I thought I was the only one who was bugged about that.

Psssshhhhhh we mods just love spam. We delete it because it's too valuable to share with the masses.

Q: How many poets does it take to change a light bulb? A: 1001...one to change the bulb, 1000 to say it's already been done.

Last month we had 200 more new members than our next highest month so things have been picking up quite a bit. Could be a coincidence. When there's spam or stuff posted more than once we try to delete it. Best thing to do is report the post when you see it.

Just to give you guys an idea of how quickly we've been growing here is a chart of new members each week since the beginning of the year...

It sure did, and in the teen forum of all places. He was posing as a gay teen, but I think he was a straight adult/predator. He's been banned thank God!

That is HORRIBLE!! He (all people like him) is the reason I do NOT let my kids use the internet for social reasons. Only for school and only supervised. So, to all you nasty perverts out there, on behalf of my teenagers, THANKS for ruining a cool thing! Jerks.
