When I first got online the first thing I did was join a mailing list. They had this program that they called "Adopt-a-Newbie" where new members (at their request) would be paired with more experienced members (who volunteered). The purpose of the program was to provide people with someone to go to when they had questions. I know a lot of strong friendships were formed out of that program. My "parent" lives two hours from here and after a while I got a newbie of my own who lives here in town, after four years I still talk to both on a regular basis and we sometimes attend concerts together.

Of course you don't have to meet your newbie in person but we would try to pair them up by location. I think something like this might be beneficial here, especially if it's geared toward new vegetarians. It's a little intimidating to join a new community and I think we'd all like to do what we can to make that easier on someone. Assigning them a "parent" will automatically give them a friend on the board.

So yeah, people would be paired primarily based on age and location. You would correspond with them through IM's, PM's, e-mail, etc.

I'm not sure about the specifics. I'd like to hear your comments and suggestions.

She's been here for a year! How would we do it - post count, tenure, or mental ability?

GhostUser 01-03-2003 12:49 PM

Hmmm...I've already adopted someone here...It's a secret

for real...not kidding...

But, I can adopt you to LC....I mean, I've already been helping you anyhow since you hit the door. Why not? Just let me know if you have any questions. I'm fairly new too, but I have a good heart and if I can't help you I can always try to find help through someone else.

I've only been around on and off for a year or so, but I'd be glad to try to answer questions if anyone needed help.

GhostUser 01-06-2003 01:02 AM

I'm a Newbie - any takers!!!

I'm female age 21 from Essex in the UK.

(SWF GSOH seeks..... Lol!)

GhostUser 01-06-2003 03:55 AM

Curious...what's GSOH?

Avalon 01-06-2003 06:21 AM

"Good sense of humour"

I will accept applications (and bribes) from all dedicated newbies with GSOH. Must be prepared for optional "initiation" rituals.

Haha. Like how I just turned it into a priviledge? lol

KC Kid 01-06-2003 08:53 AM

Do these include spankings...IF so, I need a new user name

Ok, no comments on typos allowed on this board[especially mine] but it is spelled english

Write something in dutch in case there's some dutch lurkers feeling lonesome...

1vegan 01-09-2003 08:58 AM

english, I've got to remember that.

I type short post direct into the screen and without spelling correction and then I make this kind of mistakes...

So far I'm the only dutch here ( I think)

I like to remain "anonymous" so i'll skip the dutch if you don't mind...

spud 01-09-2003 09:02 AM

We had a dutch girl here once, Ali, but she went over to the other place [Frankies]

Skylark 02-06-2003 07:26 PM

Hey, can I have a newbie? I practically have LuckieCharms right now (lucky girl, two adopted mothers--Ruthie and me...)

I'll take another newbie, tho, once we get more.
