This isn't so much about assistance, but it is about community.

I personally, and I know I'm not the only one, really like it when people use a picture of themself for their avatar. I'm so glad there are a lot of people here who do it!

A small tale - when Mike first allowed avatars he required that people use a picture of themself. I was one of the fiercest opponents of this - but now I see there really are a lot of benefits to this! It creates a nice community feel and makes posts seem a bit more personal.

i agree, mikie, but i also think that there are members who wouldn't feel comfortable donig that, for the sake of privacy or internet safety. i personally like the wide variety of avatars we have here! some of them are really creative and i begin to associate even the most abstract images with the people posting.

I recently put a heavily photoshoped version of my face as an avatar but it kinda freaks me out for some reason - I changed it back again.

Well, I would but it's proven to be a bit unsettling just recently. So, those of you who ever saw my picture will just have to remember what I look like because I don't think I'll be posting a pic anytime soon (the ones in the gallery have been gone for awhile). People get all freaky..specially when they find out they live close by.

Ruthie if you want to use one of yourself, you could always just manipulate a photo until it's not that easily recognisable as you. Thats what I did. Mine obviously looks a bit like me but it's distorted enough so that someone who saw me in the street wouldn't be able recognise it as me.

Mine's a picture of me, only because I'm too lazy to change it.

I'd change mine back to my face but I'm still in mourning over the loss of my kitty.

And then you have people like me who haven't changed their avatar since before the switch to larger avatars...

Naw, MV, you're the invisible person with a great backdrop.

Well, if I was visible, here's a description of me for those who are curious: bald with a few strands of hair wrapped over top; gigantic buck teeth; large, thick, Junior Soprano glasses; oozing, bloody zits; and greasy hair. Oh...forgot...body odor that would make a billy-goat puke, but I guess you wouldnt know that by a picture.

I'll have a photo of me as an avatar as soon as I get one that I like enough!

I do think it's quite good when people do it, it's nice to get a picture of them rather than having to guess. I always imagine what I think people look like, then I'm really shocked when I look at the galleries!

I got tired of having my face on my avatar. I don't know if I'll switch back or not. I do like when people use their faces as their avatars though. It does seem more personal, like mikie said.

I don't like having a photo of myself as my avatar. I've had such avatars in other places but I feel uncomfortable with it. It's not that I don't like the way I look, or that I'm afraid of being stalked. I just don't like it. If people want to see what I look like, there's a couple pics in the gallery. Otherwise they must content themselves with Uma the Cat (or whatever avatar I have subsequent to now).

i've always used a picture of myself as an avatar, which is kind of odd since i hate all pictures of myself, but i've always preferred doing that here for some reason... *shrug*

I used to have myself as my Avatar, but it got old......and I am too lazy to get anything new made (besides I'm pretty homely....so it's easier on everyone's eyes if I have like a rabid rat or a quacking dog on my avatar)

I like seeing avatar's of other people's faces as well but I am far too un-photogenic to ever get a pic of me that I would want to use! I photo-shopped one of me but it looks a little stupid so I think i'll find something else to use.

I agree with both Mikie and Kreeli .. it's nice to see the faces of the people you are chatting with. But I also really like to see the funky, creative avatars that some people come up with. I used to have my face as my avatar.. but currently I am a chubby pregnant girl and don't want you all see me, so I used a little black kitty that reminds me of my own kitty. Once I take a cute picture I will change it back to my face.. just for you Mikie!
