Vegan sugar brands?

I didn't realize sugar wasn't always vegan, I should have figured though, there's usually animal products in everything

But anyway, can anyone tell me which brands available at Wal-Mart or Kroger are vegan? I know Domino isn't. I alternate between sugar in the raw and domino white sugar depending on what I'm making because the turbinado stuff is so expensive. Oh and also, what about Splenda? Is it vegan? I hope that isn't a stupid question, but I'm still learning.

In my experience, most of the store-brand sugars may be vegan. A big exception is Winn-Dixie where ALL the sugar is cane sugar. If not labeled cane, it is probably beet sugar and vegan. I buy Publix brand. I don't know about Splenda....

*sigh* sugar... (I've got a bone to pick with sugar labeling...) well, sugar made from beets is never processed with bone char. The problem is that beet sugar isn't advertised like cane sugar is, so you don't really know if refined white sugar is pure beet sugar, or a blend of beet and cane sugar, without contacting the company. However, most sugars coming from the upper midwest are from beets, because that's what grows here. Pioneer and Big Chief are definitely vegan. Here's the link. (http://www.michigansugar.com/documen...plement/17.pdf) Also, you can contact the US Beet Sugar Association for more brands in your area. (www.beetsugar.org/)

Sucralose (Splenda, Sweetzfree, etc.) is, in itself, vegan. However, I believe it's still being tested on animals. Granted, all artificial sweeteners are (or have been) tested on animals, but most vegans tend to choose stevia because it's plant-based.

Splenda is evil...and I don't know where you live but most sugars in Michigan are marked Beet Sugar on the bag, Pioneer being a major brand.
