Boca Mock Ground Beef Has Been Discontinued

Thread Starter
Figures doesn't it ? I haven't been able to buy the Boca ground crumbles from the stores lately and I called Boca and the rep said that they had to discontinue the Boca ground crumbles , because they weren't selling well enough. They tasted pretty good and fit in with alot of pasta dishes and other meals.

Can anyone suggest a good mock ground beef substitute that you buy ? I don't like the Morning star brand of mock ground beef, it's pretty bland. I wish there were more of us to keep these products from being discontinued .

You could just buy boca burgers and crumble them. That's basically what the crumbles were.

I kinda stopped using it since I prefer my spaggeti with just mushrooms and onions. I've never tried it but I hear TVP is a good ground beef sub (I imagine you'd have to season it up yourself.) Lentils are good in stuff like sloppy joes and tacos. For "meatballs", I like to use mashed beans.

I liked it for chili, tacos, and BBQ.

Anybody consider Lightlife Gimme Lean as a replacement? ALL of the Lightlife products are vegan.

There are quite a few that aren't vegan actually. Which sucks too, because they look so good!

The only Gimme Lean products we have around here are the tubes of sausage.

I didn't really eat the Boca crumbles but that's a real bummer. I think Morningstar Farms makes something similar.

That's weird...I just noticed our grocery store finally STARTED stocking it. I'll have to grab some next time I'm there. I hadn't gotten a chance to try them before. Might as well get a taste before they are gone.

FYI: Morningstar sausage crumbles are AMAZING and make the best spaghetti EVER!! Peace & Love!!

I like the Morningstar Farms crumbles, but you're right that they're a little bland. I just add my own seasoning and voila!

Morningstar Farms does make them, I've never tried the Boca brand so I don't know how they compare but the Morningstar Farms crumbles are really quite good.

Well, that's what I was thinking of when I went to the Lightlife website, but for some reason they don't include those in their products list.

SERIOUSLY? That's insane. My fav fast food, Baker's Drive Thru, uses them in their veggie burritos and tacos. What are they going to do now? I'll suggest Morningstar Farms! Boca is STUPID.

There's a brand called Yves that is really good. It's in the refridgerated aisle where the vegan/vegetarian foods are...well, that's where I find them at Whole Foods.

Agreed. That's what I do too. Used them just last night for tacos and they were delicious!

I LOVE Morningstar Farms, it's all I buy in terms of crumbles. Nicole gave me the idea in her taco salad recipe to mix in taco seasonings with them. I always thought they were perfect as they were (ground beef isn't full of flavor really) as the other ingredients should take over in taste, but I REALLY like it with taco seasonings

Oh no! That's my favorite mock meat.

I'll have to see if Giant Eagle carries the Morningstar crumbles. If not, then I shall never enjoy spaghetti again. (j/k)

Lets all write to the company!

Yeah, I use Yves normally, or just plain TVP.

I think part of the problem is the grocery stores around here charge $3.99-4.19 for the Boca / Morningstar Farms products.

I'm not sure whose fault that is but $4 is just too expensive for what you get. It's no wonder they don't sell very well.

Wal Mart charges $2.89 which I think is very reasonable. The Morningstar Farms chick strips are the one thing I'll set foot inside a Wal Mart for.

I just realized I use morning star farm crumbles, not boca..

Shoot, really?!? I just bought some about a month ago and they're currently still sitting in my freezer. I guess I'll save them for something special!!
What a shame... I like the Boca crumbles quite a bit better than the Morningstar equivalent. Oh well, it happens I guess.

I 100% agree. They are WAY to expensive for what you get. The stores here sell MF and Boca products for $4.99 now. It's ridiculous.

I like Boca. One of my fav things beside veggies and tofu. I have been having problems finding the vegan burgers, and the vegan chicken nuggets and patties. I used to find them anywhere. So when I do see them, I stock up. I buy a boat load of them (I have a big chest freezer ). I have a boat load in my freezer, but when I see them now, I still stock up. It's a bummer that I have to do this, but s**t happens, I guess.
I agree. They were good, but WAY too expensive so I rarely ever bought them.
I think Green Giant has some sort of meatless crumbles, but I haven't checked the ingredients or anything.
I've only ever seen Yves in the store here and we use them in chilli all the time, hubby actually prefers it to the real stuff.

DAMN IT!!!! I love Boca's soy crumbles. Seriously. I would eat it straight from the package, frozen. We should organize a letter writing campaign begging them to continue it.
