Stomach pain after eating?

The past 3 or 4 days I'm getting severe stomach pain after eating, not right after, but 30-45 minutes after. I tried eating light things and uncooked things to see if it would get better but it's getting worse. I don't think it's gas because I don't feel bloated. It feels like cramping, slow contractions. It's getting to the point I'm dreading eating. To make things worse, I don't have health insurance anymore so I can't go to the doctor unless I think I'm dying.



A little background: I'm a new veggie (I eat a little dairy cheese occasionally, but that's it) for the past couple of weeks and loving it!!!

what kind of foods are you eating? i know from your other posts it is not alot at all. it could be gas,it can manifest itself in many ways...not necessarily w/ bloating. where is the pain exactly?down lower in the intestinal area? or above your navel? does it feel better if you lay down or press on the spot?

I'm eating tofu scramble, grilled veggies, salad, Boca burgers, Morningstar Chick'n products, etc. The pain is above my navel, slightly to my left. Nothing alleviates it besides not eating solid food (by that, I mean I don't feel it when my stomach is empty or when I'm drinking fluid) I'm trying to go more raw, will that help?

first: drink water while you are eating. this greatly helps digestion and some people do not drink at all when eating (also helps us not overeat too!).

second: you may be lactose intolerant. most times when adults decrease dairy consumption (or eliminate) they can no longer "tolerate" the lactose (sugar in dairy) anymore because around %70 of us do not produce lactase (enzyme that breaks down lactose for digestion) after childhood.

I have heard that this is incorrect. Drinking liquids dilutes our natural digestive enzymes and inhibits the digestion process. At least that's what I've heard, but who knows.







broccolichick, Where's the fruit? The grains? You have a lot of processed soy products there. Those things can often upset people's stomachs. I know if I eat too much faux-meat, my stomach becomes upset. Soy doesn't agree with everyone. I'd try raw fruits and veggies more often, add some grains like rice (rice is easy on the stomach), and lay off the junk foods (overly processed faux-meats).

yeah, thats *alot* of soy!

your stomach needs something more substantial to workon. if you go raw, what do you intend on eating?

It depends on what you are eating. If you are eating lots of watery vegetables and juicy fruits, a little more water isn't going to affect your digestion much, especially since no hydrochloric acid is necessary to digest fruits and vegetables. But drinking water while eating protein and fat definitely causes trouble.

Yeah I agree those processed soy products could be hurting your stomach.



What about stress? Are you more stressed then usual? I had a problem like that with my stomach before and it was perhaps an ulcer or something similar. I had to take meds for it. But since you can't go to the doctor that easily, I would try to change your diet a bit first and see if that helps. Processed soy products can give me stomach pains too.

Are you on The Pill? I was on Yasmin for 5 months and during the last 3 months, I was sick about 30 minutes after eating after every single meal. It's not likely, but a possibility.

Any idea if you have IBS? I do, and I all too often have stomach pain after eating. Also, in some cases, it does not help to eat raw things as they are hard on your digestive system (and yes, I know they are very healthy).

A few weeks back I irrated the lining of my stomach. If your pain hasn't gone away or if even drinking water hurts, I'd suggust going to see your doctor. It was not fun at all.

Drinking water while eating is not usually advisable, as it dilutes your digetive enzymes and stomach acids. Also, as I think was mentioned, it inhibits the absorption of the nutrients.

Those who follow Ayurvedic principles are against drinking water while eating for pretty-much the same reasons.

It WILL reduce your apetite (sometimes) or help you not eat as much, but in your (the OP's) case, it sounds like you need to eat more fruits, veggies and such anyway.

The OP may be lactose intolerant, but "becoming intolerant because you eliminated dairy" is a myth. Many people may feel ill after consuming dairy after being off it for a long time, but these results have proven to be psychomatic OR the person may have been intolerant all along and just not recognized how miserable they felt due to other health/digestions issues before they went off dairy.



That said, I agree with those who say it could be soy/processed foods related. Isn't gallbladder pain also associated with the same time-frame (half hour after eating, or so?).



If it doesn't get better, go have it checked out, there are lots of community clinics and places you can get low-cost health care.

Try taking a slower approach to your goal of becoming a vegetarian.

I am ending my second week of not eating meat and for the past several days, a week I think actually, I have been having stomach and abdominal discomfort/pain. I feel it mostly at night. It's VERY uncomfortable.



After I started taking a slower approach to becoming a vegetarian, I have felt a lot better. Give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. Good luck.

Here's my guess. You're eating too much processed food and too much soy. Watch out for becoming a "junk food" vegetarian. Fresh food is always better than processed. I'm curious if you've had this much soy in the past. If not, have you had your monthly cycle since adding all the soy? If your cycle is affected - more cramping, more bloating, more bleeding then it's definitely soy. If you are thinking of going raw, check out research by Gabriel Cousens, Ann Wigmore, Douglas Graham, David Wolfe and Paul Nison.

Please see a specialist, you might suffer from something like a painful but harmless condition to a gastroduodenal ulcer or pancreatitis. Hope, you'll get well soon!
