How to get Animal Crossing signs put up in roadways?

In NJ, probably more animals get hit than any other state, we have jerkoff drivers and many of them... I dont need to hear the speeder excuse b/c I myself usually go kinda fast on highways, slower at night, and kinda drive like i think im Mario andretti... since ive driven 6yrs ago, ive hit a bunny rabbit and a couple birds.. some close calls but most all avoidable.

Theres an offramp from crappy Rt1 north near my house where i live north of trenton, nj now... Many times smaller animals get hit there, and moreso now canadian geese get hit along this area of rt1 near the water/ponds. People can only go about 20-25mph along these turns, i mean the speed limit is 15mph but you cant possibly go FASTER than 25mph, car will just roll over lol.

THere were not one but TWO full size canadian geese that got hit one right after another off the side of the turn on the one ramp, i mean no one can say they cant stop from 25mph that fast... im sure kids even try to purposely hit them, they cross this area a lot due to water and nesting areas along the road.. I know i could probably call the township but where do you file a thing to get a form for the township to place road signs for animal crossings?

--Write to your department of highways and city council. Suggest a need to install wildlife crossing signs in the problem areas you named. Emphasize that road kills are also a hazard to human drivers. (Swerving to avoid animals or dead animals in the roadway can cause accidents; collisions with large animals can cause serious damage/death to human drivers)

--Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. Point out how many road kills occur in certain areas. Offer readers some tips to avoid hitting wildlife. Here are some ideas: http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_...e_in_mind.html

--Take the message with you when you drive. This free bumper sticker urges fellow drivers to slow down for wildlife. http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/issues_...r_sticker.html

--E-mail the HSUS www.hsus.org and ask for a stack of their Give Wildlife A Break! brochures. Get permission to leave them at libraries, community information booths, etc.

We got signs put up in our neighborhood (a speed limit set by us, and a children playing sign) by attending a city council meeting. It's open to the public, and when they say "New Business?" that's your cue!

We got a duck crossing sign by the lagoon just because the fire fighters thought the baby ducks were cute... that, and they consistently walked from the lagoon across the street to the fire dept. where the fire fighters gave them lots of food.

I'm sure if you can prove that there is a lot of wildlife traffic there and that there have been numerous roadkills, they'll consider your request. They may even put in a stop sign if they find that the swerving and impacts may pose a threat to human drivers.

Good luck.

Just by me someone had a couple of their pet cats killed on the road, so they made their own 'cat crossing' sign and put it up and it got featured on the news! It made people aware

I used to live in Jersey & remember what a problem this was in certain areas. It was horrible to see a dead goose because of their size. I would contact the mayor/city hall as well. I would imagine when you let people in the surrounding area know what is going on you can get some support as well. Good luck.
