YUM! Okay, for those who don't already know the U.S. version of the above mentioned candies contain gelatin. www.veganstore.com stocks the imported version and they are so yummy. They have better flavors than the U.S. also. (i.e. Black currant) Point for the U.K. Am so excited I had to share.

My husband has bought a bunch of the Skittles since he's been overseas. I didn't like Skittles before going vegan, but I'm willing to give them another shot.

Erin~

I would, give them another go, if I were you. Or, at least try the Starburst.
Thanks for the info, even if I'm not a big candy-lover. But why-oh-WHY would they make them vegan in one country, and not in another??

I LOVE STARBURST. I'm from Uk and i get em all the time Great for the cinema as the pop corn usually has butter in it.

Do the USA starburst really habe gelatine? that's weird!

That is a good question..why are they produced differently in the U.S.?
It's about money. In europe, if they make them vegetarian, they'll get more customers, but in the US, by using cheapass ingredients like gelatin, they'll save money.

it's pretty sad though. Most sweets and candies contain gelatin. I bet that if someone made vegan marshmallows, they'd have the market cornered. I'd buy them anyway. I guess the only way to make your voice heard is to write to the company that produces starburst & skittles and say that you'd like it if they made their products vegetarian, as they have donr in the UK. If they get enough correspondence, they might consider actually doing it.

I used to love them both, especially at the movies. I gave them up the day I became vegan.

I miss Skittles so much. And I would buy those. But alas, I don't have a credit card, and I highly doubt my parents would pay for me to get candy of the internet.

Im pretty sure they dont have gelatin in here...

But now im thinking maybe they do...

I read the packets of most things, especially confectionary..

But i dont think ive ever read the packet of skittles!!!!

Im really hoping they dont contain gelatin, as the only lollies i seem to eat are m&ms and skittles.

I have a pack of those vegan skittles btu I'm too scared to eat them becasue of the hydrogenated oil. Stupid transfats!
isnt there gelatine or something in films? (you know for cameras?)
Don't worry keegan. Hydrogenated oils arent good for you, but as long as you don't pig out on them, you'll be fine. To be honest, I'm more worried about the sugar in them, (And so is my dentist!!) as I'm the average British person with bad teeth.

I love the Mint Skittles. But yeah, according to the company website (skittles.com) they do contain geletain from beef sources. =(

And starburst.com confirms geletin in the fruit chews. However, Starburst Jelly Beans are vegan, as are the Starburst Hard Candies and Fruit Twists. =)

Hahaha, keegan, you sound just like me!!Last year I had some ED like problems with fat in food, but Im better now! Cept for trans fat. pure chaunch. Yeah, I looove mocha rice dream/soy ice cream sandwhiches. I have'nt tried lotsa toffuti stuff for the afore mentioned reason.

Phew! In the petrol station today I picked up a pack of skittles and read the back, and thankfully no Gelatin was on the list!

Loki...where is there shellac in star burst??
It's the the jelly beans. I haven't checked them in a while, so they might have taken it out. It might be listed as E904, but ever since that Trevor McDonald programme, they might be less keen to list the number.

Regular starburst is Ok, aside from the tropical flavoured ones, which contain my arch-nemesis, carmine.

B*stards!

i really dont remember the last time i had candy... hrmmm
post #24 of 38
My veggie sister when camping with her school with some other veggies. They got veggie marshmellows. It's no fair!

Anyway go UK candy!

I only wish they did have vegetarian marshmallows commercially available. If they did, then I'm confident that they'd fly off the shelves faster than something that goes really really fast.

Mmm.. marshmallows were probably my favourite lollies!

Man you people are so backwards... Our skittles have no gelatin yet our starburst lollies do!!

My friend said he's going to get $50 worth of lollies to share with everyone on camp next week... so I told him to get some non gelatin ones.. and he promised he would ! YAY!

Hehehe.. I think its kind of funny that they make these. I mean, it's cool that they provide them as to not alienate vegans and vegetarians alike... but if you ask me, I wouldn't bother to order them... I would just give it up! It's better for my waistline anyhow.
