milk substitute for coffee?

has anyone found a good substitute for milk in coffee? i hate black coffee, but since becoming vegan i've ended up not really drinking coffee for about 4 months.. I haven't missed it, but I have a jarful of coffee waiting to be drunk..



everything i've tried just breaks apart because of the acidity, is there anything that won't? i'm watching soya milk do that "cloud-spreading" thing in a cup of coffee at the moment, i know its going to taste ick..

Some powdered creamers are vegan. I'll see if I can find some online. (I heard some coffeemate is too)

i put Silk (the regular soy milk kind) in my coffee and i like the taste even better than the cream (even though i'm not vegan ) ... and that's the only kind of soy milk that does curdle or whatever that's called

and a lot of people use Silk Creamers ... they sell those at supermarkets

Silk makes soy creamer. There are flavors like amaretto and French vanilla.



Personally, I find black coffee superior, because I like the taste of coffee.





What's stopping you from using regular soymilk? They do it at Starbucks and the like, and apparently that's fine.

i'll have to try and find some soy creamer (or a sweet cake ).. i haven't seen any anywhere, i've been keeping an eye out for it (i'm in the uk, and the normal health shops etc don't seem to have any).. is it in powdered form?



i've used soy/rice/oat/nut milk and it all just curdles immediately

what works for me is you have to put the coffee into the creamer, not the creamer into the coffee. put some soy milk in the bottom of your mug and then pour the coffee over it. it's always worked for me.

provida reminded me of something i did with almond milk and some other cloudy milks - i boiled a little bit in the microwave and then added coffee ! try that before your creamers comes in

Ah, yeah, I guess it's a matter of experimentation. I find the thinner soymilks tend to be like that. Maybe a thicker one would do the trick for you?

Another vote for Silk Soy Creamer. Excellent. Especially if you use a cafe presse. Very rich. No sugar required.

iirc, coffeemate has sodium casinate in it. Sodium cainate comes from milk. Coffeemate is not vegan.

Well, I said I'd heard, I am not a regular coffee drinker myself, so I didn't know for sure (I've never used it, I like cake with coffee). Thanks for the correction, though.

just trying chocolate soy milk in coffee (i've been experimenting with coffee for about 4 hours lol) and its gorgeous..

If you heat most soymilks before you add them to coffee then they won't curdle.

I use oatmilk in my coffee. Kinda has that "cloudy" look but it tastes pretty good. I really don't like soymilk at all in my coffee. Made it taste really strange so I experimented with all kinds of milks til I found oatmilk, and I love it.

Anyone know of a powdered vegan version that DOESN'T have hydrogenated oils in it? I want to take some with me when I go on vacation and every kind I see in the packets has trans fats. I would prefer not to have the tub kind because that would mean having to carry it around in a small baggie, and I really don't want to have to explain the white powder in the baggie while they check my luggage! If possible, packets are ideal, but I have a feeling I am out of luck. I've been Googling around (that's how I discovered this thread, BTW) and it doesn't look like they have such a thing. Man it's hard to be vegan AND avoid hydrogenated fats and artificial sugars!

Heating the soymilk first, like thebelovedtree said, has worked for me for more acidic coffees. For less acidic coffees, I do as Porvida suggests and put the creamer in the mug first, then pour coffee on top of it.



I used Silk creamer when I can get it (plain, not flavored).
