Hey ppl! I was just thinking about my converse all stars and was wondering if any knows if they use real leather on them? I was in a fit of worry since they're my favourite shoes...!!! Luv Lucy xxx

I'm pretty sure they're canvas and rubber. I sure hope so because I my pair.

The leather shoes Converse sells uses real leather, not fake leather. Their canvas shoes are animal free to the best of my knowledge.

I used to buy Converse almost exclusively for my non-dressy shoes, until they moved their plants outside the U.S. to places like Indonesia. I'm almost positive the shoes made by Converse there use child labor, and I'd have to say it ranks higher on my "Do Not Buy Ever" list than leather.

I'll do some more research before you accept that as fact, though.

EDIT: I do know they were purchased by Nike, though, so that makes me 99.99% sure they use child labor. But let me find some proof.

I wouldn't buy Converse for human rights reasons either. I'm sticking to my New Balance (some of them are partially prepared outside the US now, but they still seem better than most companies.)

Ya, Converse is now owned by Nike. For an ethical and equally affordable alternative, try the blackspot sneaker. http://adbusters.org/metas/corpo/blackspotsneaker/

Here are a few links for reference:

Et cetera. Just do a google search on "converse labor practices", "nike labor practices", or even just "nike", and you'll find a plethora of information on the subject.

Way to rain on my parade. Guess I should have known better.

Why must we use labor that costs five cents an hour to make a forty dollar pair of shoes? *sigh*

It's okay. Just think about it next time you buy shoes.

And to answer your question: because companies are greedy *****.

And also because the typical consumer is either ignorant or doesn't care, as long as they have the product they want.

check out this site http://nosweatapparel.com/miva/merch...Affiliate=Mick the shipping cost is included in the price. I want to get the code pink high tops. Converse sells pink hightops at $40 at their online store . No sweat high tops are $47 with shipping included in the price. Unfortunately they only make 3 color red, pink and black low tops.
