My hair has always been unruly, frizzy and poofy since I was a kid. It's been 25 years. And I've lived in a high humidity country my entire life and I've always had to deal with unruly hair.

I had my hair permanently straightened (where I'm from, we call them "rebond") before I was a vegan (permanent meaning will last me almost 8-10 months). And now I kinda have to do it again because I always end up pulling my hair back into a ponytail whenever my hair gets really messy and I now have a few bald spots in my forehead (they're not THAT noticeable from afar, but I'm still a bit self conscious about it).

Are there any vegan brands that I can bring to the salon to get my hair straightened? But the type of products that won't make my hair look like a bunch of sticks. They used to use L'Oreal on me but L'Oreal obviously isn't vegan. Any tips please?

I didn't know anything about styling or straightening either!! But thanks to a friend of mine who offered to straighten my hair once, I loved the new look and new I had to start myself. I use a ceramic straightner (at first I was totally afraid of it and thought I'd burn myself to bits lol) and I've gotten used to it now. It's not 20 minutes everyday if you take a shower every other day like me. :) I use dessert essence hair defrizzer and heat protectant. It comes in a squirt spray bottle and it just helps to protect it I think. At least you'd know you be striaghtening your hair the vegan way.

My roommate has super frizzy hair and she also straightens it every other day, though not with vegan products.

Rusk Thermal Shiny Str8 is vegan (I have an e-mail from the company stating that it is). I've been using their Anticurl + Kerashine Conditioning relaxer (also vegan) for years, and finally decided to bite the bullet and try a permanent straightener. This stuff works wonderfully well. My hair is as straight as if I was born with it.

If you'd like any tips on using either of those products from someone who's been doing this at home for years, just say so. I freely admit that I either omit/modify some of the steps or use slightly unconventional application methods (slap it on, no special combs, shampoos, etc.).

I love this permanent straightener -- it's been weird getting used to actual straight hair after fighting with it for years, but I love it.

Keratin is NEVER vegan...!!

So I checked. Keratin is never ever vegan nor vegetarian. Rusk Thermal Shiny Str8 contains keratin.

Please spread the word that keratin is not vegan.

There is vegan keratin, it's not strictly real keratin (which is nice because real keratin is made out of someone's bones).

De Lorenzo are a vegan company, they have salon grade stuff. They might have something that can help with straightening your hair.

I'm a curly haired girl, but I gave up on trying to straighten my hair a long time ago. If you find it's all too hard to keep your hair straight, then you might want to look into things like the no-poo method (where you don't shampoo your hair, only condition it. I've been doing that for the past 3 years, my hair is thanking me for it!). Microfibre hair towels are also great because they don't dry out the hair. And there's a few really nice vegan hair products out there. I use the Lush range, but there's plenty of others.
