I've been feeling so out of it lately. Tired, clueless, dizzy... I did some research on my diet and wanted to know if anyone else felt as spaced out as I do. Basically it all came down to lack of nutrition. I try my best to get in all my proteins, irons and vitamins, but something's not cutting it. I made a very inaccurate decision thinking that adding fish to my diet would possibly clear up the fog I'm in day to day. WRONG! I will never in my again think of crab, salmon or even seaweed salad for the matter in the same way. If your body can't handle it, it's probably not the best for you. Sick ALL night! I guess I double it up on the fruits and veggies?

What is a typical day for you?
Seconded.

Can you explain what you're eating, and exact amounts?

You may not be eating enough, but it could also be something else entirely.

The only thing we can tell you is if your diet is 'by the books', but blood work is the ultimate test which will usually tell you if there's something serious wrong.

Another vote for this course of action.

If you were an omni would you automatically assume your symptoms were diet related? Doubtful. I'm sure you would get yourself checked out by a doctor. It may well be totally unrelated and be a virus etc. that has nothing to do with nutrition.

I agree with River, get some bloods done and if it transpires that you are deficient in some vitamin/nutrient then you can do something about it by altering your nutrition or using supplements.

How long has it been since you changed your diet?

I know January was a tough month for me. It was my first month of strictly vegan. I was so out of it I went to my Dr and requested a complete blood work done. He thought I was being paranoid. He ordered a Comprehensive Met Panel, B12, ferritin, homocysteine, vitamin D.... Everything was normal except my D was low. Which was always a little low anyway.

But mostly I was going through with-drawls from carbs and junk food. I feel fantastic now. I do notice I have to healthy snack throughout the day to ward off any hunger. No biggie. In between meals I might eat a banana or two.

But hang in there. Go see a doctor if you're concerned and good luck.

For me, it was gluten. I actually started noticing the symptoms in my dad, and then myself. Gluten sensitivity can be genetic, and it seems to run in my family (his sister and his cousin are both celiac). I looked it up online and found that gluten can cause brain fog and memory problems. I still have that a bit, but it's a lot improved since I cut it out of my diet back in December. Maybe you can do a self-test?

The two fastest ways for me to get weak, tired, and dizzy are calorie deficiency and salt deficiency.

New veg*ns are commonly hit by the calorie deficiency thing because of the lower caloric density of healthy veg*n foods, people trying to be healthy and not consume salt some times go too far and slip into hyponatremia (salt deficiency) especially if its hot or if they exercise or otherwise make themselves sweat.

In summer I carry liquids and a miniature ziplock bag of salt in my backpack, it looks suspicious to people but it fixes any dizziness within ten minutes.

You don't say how long you've eaten plant basd, whether you were vegetarian before, or why you chose fish and say fish and seaweed salad made you so sick?

The first thing you need sounds like some solid nutrition facts.
This is a really good comprehensive book:

While veggies have some protein, are you eating things like beans, lentils, tofu, or even frozen vegan products?
