Tru Blood is a brand of synthetic bottled blood engineered by Japanese scientists (however, it is also mentioned by Nan Flanagan in "You Smell Like Dinner" that many of the brightest scientific vampire minds, apparently including Louis Pasteur, a non-fictional, 19th century French chemist and microbiologist, had been working on synthetic blood to make the Great Revelation possible). Catering to the vampire population, the release of Tru Blood was the main catalyst for the Great Revelation - when vampires "came out of the coffin" and revealed their existence to the world.
Tru Blood is marketed as an alternative blood source for vampires and supposedly meets all their nutritional needs. However, many vampires have found Tru Blood to be revolting compared to human blood.
True Blood marketing slogans on the show...
"All flavor. No bite."
"Because you don't need a pulse to make hearts race."
"Friends don't let friends drink friends."
"Real blood is for suckers."
"Who ever said Tru Blood was only for vampires?"
