I think those spices would be fine, I add more than what you'd think, tofu needs help in the flavor department. As far as drying it out, it seems that's what you want to do to get some good texture. I like to keep this step pretty basic, then sauce things later in whatever recipe I'm using it in. I bake 3 cookie sheets at a time and just keep it in the fridge and pull them out as needed.

Don't give up, tofu takes practice, BUT once you get the hang of it, it will become an obsession..well, it did w/ me. It challenged me for over a year, but I WON!

This is my second attempt with tofu. I'm hoping that blitzing the hell out of it with salt and crispyness it will be awesome



I'll go for scrambled when I can consider eating it sightly softer again ew :



Eating vegan is fun though apart from tofu and mushrooms lol xD

the scramble is yummy in a tortilla shell. let me know when you're ready...lol



How could I forget this!!!! Tofu bacon...yes! you must try tofu bacon!!!!!!! crispy, salty, smokey yumminess! There is much work to be done here, don't you dare give up...lol

My onion salt tofu crispies are frigin awesome



just keeping them in for another half an hour They are yummy though, I think its the salt



I like tofu now the frezer I think has added to it

I didn't really like tofu until about 2 years ago which is insane considering I have been vegetarian and then vegan for ages! I love it now.

Now my question....cuz I hate tofu too....and I've tried a few version with no success! And I am a frigin' genius in the kitchen LOL!

I am intrigued by this baked version (btw, I've bought store bought baked tofu and hated it too).

Start with firm or extra firm tofu. freeze, pat with towel to absorb water (or is it pat with towel then freeze?). Then slice in triangles, put loads of salt, onion powder and bake at what temp? Also, then do you cube these up and add to your favourite dish? As in, if I were making spaghetti, do I throw in a handful of these tofu cubes in the sauce?

And how much salt is enough...because my salt intake is high enough as it is. Can you gimme a rough estimate for a full block of tofu?

I did that same thing last night (trying to bread it) and it came out looking like yours haha. I marinaded it though and mixed seasoning in the flour. It was still yummy!

OMG! I was looking up a general tso tofu recipe, cause I just always wing it, and found this:

They use dried tofu skins. I go to an Asian grocery a lot, and have seen this, but never looked it up.

Has anyone tried dried tofu skins? It sounds so good!

I have never been able to get mine to bread all over like you always see in the sparkly cookbooks. Maybe if the dip had some agar in it to make it a little sticky it would cleanly stick?

I've coated tofu with cornstarch, or arrowroot and then pan fried and let the sauce reduce, like gen. tsos.

I would think (haven't tried) if you coat it in cornstarch and a little water breadcrumbs should stick well.

Mmm, I do love me some tofu. Recently I've been getting more into it. Scrambled tofu with bell peppers, zucchini, onions, and seasonings... delicious! I'm have tofu for dinner tonight with my vegan roommate! It's a recipe from the cookbook VeganYumYum (which I received as a Christmas gift) called Soy-Mirin Tofu with Snow Peas and Peanut Sauce. I made it once two weeks ago and it was so wonderfully tasty. I'm pumped. Yay, tofu!
