Getting sick when eating meat?

Thread Starter
I'm a fairly new vegetarian: I stopped eating meat about 2 1/2 years ago. Anyway, I've eaten red meat on occasion, usually by accident. It'll just be some bacon that's inside something, and I don't realize it until I've already eaten most of it. This has happened to me twice recently. Both times I got really sick. Like, I woke up in the middle of the night and thought I was gonna through up cause my stomach hurt. Is this normal? Does anyone else get really sick when they eat meat by accident?

i reverted back to meat eating for a couple of days (horrible, i know) and i am so sick. this might be tmi, but i haven't went "#2" in four days and its about to kill me. and my stomach has been cramping horribly. and my face has broken out in acne, which i haven't had in months. urgh. this sucks. but i'm going back to veganism tomorrow, so i hope i will feel better soon (physically and mentally).

It's hard to know whether it's physical, psychological, or both.

I have accidentally eaten tiny tiny amounts of meat, and by tiny I mean tiny. As soon as I taste anything slightly meaty, I spit it out. I check veggie hotdog packets like 3 times because I get paranoid that they're actually meat!

Anyway... from that I have never got physically sick or had cramps or anything like that. But I'm always upset about animals whether I accidentally eat meat or not

I've had similar happen about 6 months after I went vegetarian. My aunt made a dish that she insisted was meat free. She claimed to have made it special.. just for me. It was kind of a casserole with a cream of mushroom base. I ate a few bites and it tasted odd, so I questioned again about the contents. Again, my aunt said there was no meat in the dish. A few more bites in, I decided I just didn't like it and stopped eating... claimed I just wasn't hungry. That night and into the next day, I was inflicted with all the symptoms of food poisoning. I was miserable! A few days later, after hearing what happened to me, my aunt confessed that she had blended venison, beef, and bacon into the cream of mushroom!

Still not sure if it was a genuine reaction to the meat or if I just knew my aunt had deceived me and it was therefore "all in my head."

I was already eating very minimal meat before I went vegetarian. The last time I ate it, I was up all night with horrible stomach cramps. Ugh... I wanted to die. No stomach problems at all since making the switcharoo.

I am scared about getting violently ill if I accidentally have some meat in something.

I want to hurl when I walk past the meat section in the supermarket so I can't imagine ever wanting to eat it - I'd definitely get sick.

I do that too! I ordered a Boca burger from a restaurant last week. I had never had one before and I have heard good things, so I figured I would give it a try. I took one bite and I spit it out thinking they had accidentally given me a turkey burger. I had my omni boyfriend take a bite and he assured me it was definitely not meat. I still wouldn't eat it, I just had the fries. I went to the store the next day and checked out a box of Boca burgers, sure enough that is what I was served. Those taste way too much like meat for me, I will not be eating those again.
