Egg wash replacement?

Back in the day, I brushed egg wash on pie crusts and so forth for that nice shiny look, but haven't found anything to duplicate that result. Can anyone tell me what you've found that works well? Thanks.

I just use soya milk for that now.

Soy milk was my first thought too, as I think in non-vegan cooking you can use egg or milk to give that effect.

Oil (or a bit of melted margarine) here.
